This election, and same with both terms of Bush, have developed more into an election of, "Do I like him? Can I relate to him? Is he like me?" than "do I agree with his platform or principles?".
It's become a battle of the "real" vs. "the elite" (this is how it has been relatively successfully been painted by the Republican party).
And I think by asserting that Obama is pretending that the government is a group to make your life easier you're pretending that he said something he didn't.
"Change you can believe in" makes me gag. Actually, all political slogans make me gag. I just want to know where you stand and where you intend to direct our government.
There are a whole lot of people who wish they hadn't vote for Bush, the guy who they could have a beer with, now that we're stuck in Iraq and the economy has gone to shit.
Honestly, I don't give a fuck about McCain's service in the military, his patriotism and character as a prisoner. I also did not give a fuck about Kerry's. I didn't give a fuck that Bush avoided service. However, at least I trust McCain (though, I do not like the Palin pick -- it's playing into the character war that I referenced earlier) a whole lot more than Bush Jr.
EDIT:
I didn't know what McCain's official slogan was, so I just checked... It's just as bad, if not worse, than Obama's.
"Country First"
GAG.
