Has anyone noticed an uptick today in balls that look to be thrown on target, are not caught, but also are not dropped. In particular, in patterns like this:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=84607&pbp_id=6775380
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=84607&pbp_id=6775429

I have seen this in the past sporadically, but just happened to notice it happening on back to back plays with my guy. I'm guessing it is probably low throws...but the 2nd example above seems odd as my guy is pretty much planted flat footed and could have easily came back to an underthrown ball.

I didn't really think too much of it, until someone on a different team today posted a blurb that they were sorry for missing some easy catches, and it looked like they had some similar plays.

Yeah, I noticed that today as well.

Not sure exactly what that's about, to be honest.

think the pass was short and bounced on the ground maybe?

That's the logical explanation. The only reason I questioned that was the 2nd replay where my guy seemingly had plenty of time to adjust to the ball....it's not like he was trying to catch the ball in stride.

maybe the animation can't show what actually happen since it lacks a z axis. I'm sure theres a reason for it.

Yup. Pass was short. Some diving catch would allow you to get those balls.

Actually I do have some Diving Catch. Though I almost wish I could have it back.

Obviously it isn't clear exactly how it works, but say you get 100 targets a year, how many are going to be low? 15%? Of that, maybe a few get deflected? So now we are down to maybe a dozen times a year where the ability can work.

So if you got something crazy like a +10% chance of catching a low ball per Diving Catch SA point, it would yield you maybe 1 extra catch per year (per point). Under those circumstances, a couple points seems OK...but when it starts to cost 2 or 3 points to up the SA...it seems a little less attractive.

well, in general jumping will help with high and low balls...so if you want a generic, non-SA solution, that's it.

That pass was so low, it would be tough for you to snag...but who knows how many drops have been low (or catches) for that matter that you've snagged.

If you are only getting targeted 3-4 times a game, ya it will rarely happen. If you are getting targeted 10+ a game, it's probably worth the points.

I probably have more jumping than 99% of the WRs here. I won't say what I have now..but I was in the low 40's already early in season 3.

Noticed the same thing in a few plays my guy gets wide open but the pass is inc.
