I was going to bump up the old Speed vs Agility thread, but it seemed fairly old with season 4 info not in there.

So which would be better. Miked33 suggests speed is better, but how much speed? how much agility? is there a ratio thats good for DEs?

personally i was going to go heavy on agility until i read his guide (Would have had 82 agility/ 52 speed). Now i think i'm going to put all the SP's + equip points back into speed (70 agility / 64 speed)

I think that would work fine. My DE had success as a 55speed/64agility guy until recently when I switched all his equipment into speed. Now I am a 73/52 guy. Quick had registered a sack each game and got one last game with the speed increase.

I keep my base speed and agility reasonably close, but with all of my equipment points in speed. This leaves me somewhere in the area of 3:2 speed:agility, which I think is a good ratio.

Your high agility setup might be better for the short term, but for the long term I would recommend getting your base speed/agility close to eachother and putting equipment on speed. Either way, I don't recommend splitting equipment between the 2. Pick one, and put all your equipment on it.

mike, thanks for all of your input.

Have you trained jumping at all to try to increase tackling range?

I haven't. When I run out of other things to train, I might. Seems to me that my guy already has a pretty big tackling range.

all my equip except 2 points is in agility though. and thats already at 68 now. when i use my 3 boosts, i can put 8 points into 1 of them, and ive got 4 for equip. so if i kept most of my equip in agility, i'd be at 73 agility and and 60 speed.

i don't really have the cash to change all my equipment into speed. but it shouldn't be too bad splitting them up if i plan on gettin em both over 70, right? its not like im splittin them up to put equip into blocking.

anyway, thanks for the help everybody.

The reason I prefer not splitting equipment is efficiency. Points are worth more the higher they are, and equipment is a cheap way to get those 80th or 90th points into an attribute that would normally cost you 6 or 7 SP. Basically, by splitting them you're getting less SP for your money.

your right. i'll take the hit and throw it into agility. i'll probably sent speed and agility past the 60 cap eventually anyway, so its not a huge deal.

I like to have Agility 15 points higher now we have Evasive rushing. I get a lot of hurries for it.

but you might get more sacks instead of hurries if you were faster

The evasive setting is actually a bigger boost to speed than it is to agility imo.

I have 2 DE's who have very similar builds. One has all equipment into agility and has maxed Shed Block (from before elusive rushing) and hgher TV. The other has all equipment into Speed and maxed First Step, with slightly lower TV. They both play on the same team at the same position, and pretty much rotate 1 for 1 except in situations where we force starters to take care of other positions (wish there was an individual option for thsi).

Agility guy has 20 ish sacks more than speed guy. Although that could be the other SA's differences too. I like agility better.

Tunnel vision seems to make a bigger difference although I like first step. First step gets you up to speed quicker but when tunnel vision kicks in, I dont think first step matters a whole bunch.

Pretty sure that is tunnel vision kicking in there. If you increase your tunnel vision with your speed guy you may notice a difference. I think both methods are succesful though. If you look at Quick's (my DE's) game log, he was a 55speed/64 agility guy throug the first 10 games. Just recently I went all speed. Keep in mind I am playing in A Leagues too, so not top notch competition

Simply put, both ways work. Agility can make the route shorter to the qb, speed can make the trip shorter to the qb.

Use the two together well, and you'll do fine.
