Here's my level 11 DT who is going to hit level 12 later today:
Strength: 62.41 Blocking: 12
Speed: 12 Tackling: 18.7
Agility: 49.06 Throwing: 9
Jumping: 8 Catching: 9
Stamina: 17.68 Carrying: 8
Vision: 12 Kicking: 8
Confidence: 12 Punting: 9
SAs: all zeroes
Equipment: +8 stamina
I would prefer to have him excel as a pass rusher rather than take the NT role of run stuffing and taking on double blocks. I'm looking at what to do next.
1. Train/boost tackling to the soft cap. Tackling's getting +.67 per level so getting it to the cap would get me some additional gains there. On the other hand, with a high strength score tackling's not as important; I don't miss tackles very often as it is.
2. Train/boost stamina to 35-40. This is going to be necessary at some point, maybe even right away, as I'm not going to spend my lvl-16 equipment upgrades to continue making up for a low stamina. Once I have enough stamina I can respec my equipment to strength/agility, which will give me an even bigger advantage there.
3. Train stamina and boost agility to ~60. My first step with this player was to get strength to the second cap and I could do the same for agility, which would probably be a huge win when dealing with opposing OL... would let me get the +.67 agility gain per level from levels 16-22 to count triple instead of double, SP-wise.
4. Train/boost speed to ~30, maybe more. I know that my guy won't do anything worthwhile in the pass rush until his speed goes up, but since I don't expect speed to ever get to the first cap, there's no rush in doing this; I can add speed once my key stats like strength and agility are where I want them to be. I'm more inclined to do this near the end of next season when I'm approaching or passing level 20.
5. Train stamina/speed and put points into SAs. Same as option #4, I feel like I can wait on SAs until later in my development. I know that Shed Block and Strong Base are two key DT skills, but they're not more important than the basic physical attributes early on.
My goal in building this player is not to be dominant right away, but to be a significant force around level 20 and beyond. I would rather build a long-term advantage in my key stats, rather than put my skill points into trainable stats or SAs that will help me right now. All things considered, I'm leaning towards either option #1 or option #3. So which is more important for a DT? Do I need to have 50+ in tackling to be effective against really good RBs at higher levels? Or will I do okay with an eventual tackling score around 30-35 and an agility that reaches 60+ sooner?
