The San José Sharks of South America AAA #1 have released their official website today. It is still under construction, but the outline is in place, so management has decided to give the green light on going public.

Also, to everyone who has sent me a message, the San José Sharks are not the same as the trademarked hockey team, the San Jose Sharks.

The accent mark over the "e" changes not only the spelling of the city, but also the pronunciation. They are two completely different words, teams, and cities. One in Costa Rica (with the accent mark) and one in California (without). We are not infringing on any trademarks nor did we create the team with that goal in mind. The teams are different and the original naming process of our team had nothing to do with the hockey team.

Can you do that? Add an accent to the e and the name is allowed?

Well considering it changes the spelling and pronunciation I would imagine so. I explained this to Thorn and he seemingly found it to be a reasonable allowance.

I don't think a lot of people understand how much an accent mark changes things. It isn't some kind of loophole. It's a real city with a completely different pronunciation than the California based team.

The accent mark basically changes it from San Hozay to San Ho-SAY. Not only does it change to an s sound instead of a z, but the emphasis is placed on the ay at the end instead of the o in the middle.

LOL. It's the same thing actually. Americans just don't know how to pronounce things correctly and likes to take the accents off of everything.

The Californian city actually has the accent in its name. Americans just don't like using accents so they take it off. The reason it sounds different in the pronunciation is because Americans just like to do that with foreign names.

Either way, that isn't really the point. Regardless of the city itself, the trademarked team does not have the accent mark and never has.

I didn't say that. I just said your team has the EXACT same team name as the NHL Team the San Jose or San José Sharks, since the city of San Jose, California, actually spells their name both ways. The pronunciation for BOTH names is the same. Why is it pronounced San Hozay in the US instead of San Ho-SAY? The same reason why Asians can't pronounce English words correctly. In other words, we're FOBs when it comes to Spanish.

That's like saying the Anaheim Angels isn't trademarked just because they're now known as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Just because they don't use that name doesn't mean it isn't theirs.

San Jose, California was known as El Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe and changed its name to San Jose and San José. Even SJSU is known as San José State University.

The funny thing is you have the same stadium name as the real San Jose Sharks, yet you say you didn't name it after them.

The stadium was actually named that before I took over. The team was originally known as the Orlando Sharks. I actually intended to have the team in San Juan because that's what I designed the graphics around. Unfortunately, I received a team in a league that already has 2 San Juans already. Because of the website and graphics, I had to keep the SJ initials. Either way it doesn't matter though.

Fact is, the names are not the same thing. I've never seen the hockey team refer to themselves as San José in all the times I looked them up after naming the team to make sure I wasn't violating any copyrights.

Bottom line, regardless of what Americans do, is that the hockey team doesn't share the same name. Seeing as they are two different places entirely, San Jose doesn't really even come into play. The only thing that matters is if the hockey team uses that spelling. And they don't.

I dare you to call them and ask if the name "San José Sharks" is also trademarked by them.

San Jose Sharks are my fav hockey team.
