We are having this discussion on our team forum and I want to know does carrying help WR in any way other than the same way it effects RB?

No, it has been a long time but I seem to recall some pretty authoritative sources, perhaps even Bort posting that carrying come into play AFTER you catch the ball. I remember reading that sometime around season 2 or maybe early season 3.

if you watch WRs in the NFL and you see them catch the ball but a safety comes out of no where and crack them and it becomes a dropped pass it means they was holding the ball correctly, so yes i think it should help

Perfectly logical , but I'm just pretty sure Bort/DD mentioned that carrying only starts when you have control of the ball - therefore if you drop it'll be a fumble .

I don't think it does or my guy would be dropping a heck of a lot of balls.

Carrying for a high strength WR means more broken tackles

Carrying for a high agility WR means more avoided tackles

"Carrying" doesn't just refer to your grip or how well you can hold onto the ball, it also determines how well you move when you are carrying one. I think of it like an SA bonus that would read, "Increases your speed, agility, strength and jumping when carrying the ball." Though of course it isn't something so tremendous that you can have no agility, max carrying, and all of a sudden accelerate like a madman; it's marginal to how much you can have. IE: SAs stop at 10, skills stop at 100.

Of course that's speculation, but I believe it.
I think that if two WRs are carrying the ball side by side, one with 20 carrying and otherwise identical stats to the other's 50 carrying, the 50 carrying guy will perform better in almost every way.

This of course doesn't mean that I think carrying is something all WRs should prioritize at the top of their builds. Just how much it affects the WR vs other stats, I won't speculate.

Yeah but if two guys are even except that guy has 30 more SP in carrying it means he 's also about 6 levels higher haha. I get what you mean though, and it would probably be true for all stats minus kicking/punting/throwing in a receiver in some form.

Here it is, from Bort himself:

For a WR, at what point does Catching stop and Carrying start? I see this turning into a "does he have control of the ball" thing, but will Catching keep working until he has full control and then Carrying kick in? Or will Carrying kick in as soon as the ball touches the receivers hand(s)?

Catching determines if he gets control of the ball from a pass. Carrying determines if he holds onto it when getting tackled, including getting tackled right after catching it.
