BBB #15 Power Rankings – pre-Playoff edition

Ok, because these have been missed, and I’m tired of staring at the standings and trying to do the scenario math, I’m taking a shot at this to see how many people I can offend. This won’t be a regular thing, so hopefully someone will pick it up for next season, but I figured we ought to get one of these before we see how the final standings come down.

1. New Brunswick Scarlet Knights : When you’re the last remaining undefeated team, you get this spot until someone proves otherwise. To be the man, you have to beat the man.
2. Rapid City Rushmores : Serious western powerhouse, but we’ve already seen that the gap between them and their nearest contenders isn’t as wide as the Knights' stranglehold on the East. Still not an enviable draw for the playoffs for anyone.
3. Lima Lemurs : One field goal away from a draw for the 2nd spot in the power rankings.
4. New York Strikers : If all goes as ranked in the East, and the Knights move on, expect NY to have a giant target painted on them next season as the last of the ‘big four’ teams that dominated the East pretty thoroughly in the first season. Tough draw for whoever gets the #7 seed.
5. DVDTalk Otters : You wouldn’t have to work very hard to convince me they could be in the #4 spot. One of this season’s biggest surprises, in a good way for the Otters.
6. Western Conference Bye Week : We all know they have boosted or will. This is the toughest bye week in the BBB’s. Could easily go far, but have some surprising losses, and, of course, I’d be banned from the forums if a bye week was ranked any higher.
7. Miami Makos : One of last season’s ‘muddled middle’ teams, they’ve clearly risen above the crowd this season with some big wins.
8. Caprica Bucaneers : This is a tough, quality team. I’m not sure they deserve the bye week the first round of the playoffs.
9. Akron Browns : While they haven’t managed to create the separation the Makos did from the division, their scoring advantage, and the fact that they get a hard luck draw for the final game gives them an edge here.
10. Salem Cyber-Hawks : They edge out some fine competition just where things start to get confusing by sheer merit of going from the Jersey Boyz to a guaranteed winning record. They’re also the last team in the East to truly control their own destiny right now.

No love for the Maroons?

Definitely agree with the first 8, after that there are quite a few teams that have an argument to be up there.

There's several teams who could have made the 9 or 10 spots. Now I see why they usually did only the first 8 - but I decided to stretch it a little. Its entirely possible I'd nominate a couple different teams after tomorrow's results.
The Maroons were one of the hardest picks to eliminate. Definitely in the honorable mentions category.
Salem, ultimately, got the nod in part because of a stellar turnaround that a lot of the basement teams can take some serious hope from. Akron managed to work into its spot despite a tough last draw, and has the scoring tiebreaker that almost assures them of a spot in the playoffs, which few others can boast.

But then part of the point of doing this was to provoke discussion and disagreement too.

I see what your saying but I tend to agree with the list for the most part. Akron and Salem are solid and deserve recognition.

I'm not trying to take any credit from them by any means, just saying there are some other teams right up there as well like Chicago and Atlanta.

Oh, I agree. Chicago, Atlanta... and I've shown my respect for the Maroons by picking them almost every week when the predictions had them going the other way. Atlanta deserves respect, no doubt about it. I'd imagine Midwest could argue that they own the head to head with Chicago if they were up there... and 7 and 8 could be swapped easily, or the Makos moved down a little, since while they've won the tough ones, they've also had some close calls.

Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong, and X should be #6 or 7. Past the first few, its hard to argue that there's a lot of parity, especially in the East.
