I have access to 3 spreadsheets that state I should take pummel on most if not all O-line.
0% experience outside of rookie tho so what do I know.

That's what I'm seeing too. Building EQ and wondered about doing the pancake or pummel as the SA.

I've tried it in pee wee without much success. I know back in the day Mike Rogers, used to say it was useful but that was a long time ago and everything is different.

For a long time Aura / Pummel was the preferred combo, but its really noticed when you are literally pummeling an opponent so there have been doubts regarding it's effectiveness. Like you would beat the team anyways so does it matter that much?

It's an acceptable pick. There's no amazing alternative,
It used to be better, but now every defense you'd want it for builds in extra Confidence to counteract it. So it basically make easy games a little easier.
1st Step is good for linemen that pull.
Spot Blitz might prevent a couple sacks per season.
The best option is probably to just ignore the extra SA and go harder on SAs you already have.

i cann tell from experience and testing thaat pancake is one of the most useless SAs. i built many many olinemen with it then removed it and they usually got more pancakes afterwards. might work on lower levels but once to plateau, your build does all the work, regardless of pancake. now this was only against real teams and not cpu teams.

That's a very helpful post--thanks.

The "engage block" roll comes up at the start of the blocking interaction, as the two players lock horns. All the blocking related attributes apply as expected, but there's more of an emphasis on strength or agility (depending on the interaction) to see if there's an instant win for one side or the other. Pancake related skills can also apply here, as there can be an instant pancake. Also balance skill for the losing party if he is pancaked.

Hold block doesn't apply; that only applies on the next tick after the blocker gets his hands on the guy. Break block does apply, however.
Strong Arm does not disengage the block unless the defender is pushed too far away, in which case it would reset.
