I typically use first step on my DT's, but the more and more I watch, I would venture to guess that a very high percentage of missed tackles by DT's are diving tackle attempts.

Does anyone use Diving Tackle on a DT? In general, I think the common approach is that if a DT misses a tackle, it is inside, and someone else can clean it up without too much damage. But on my DT's, it is well over 75% of his missed tackles are missed diving tackles. Just wondering if it is worth trying to combat that, or if other have noticed the same and tried anything else.

It'd probably be OK now that 1st Step has fallen out of favor on the o-line. The momentum/acceleration mechanic would probably be about equal between a well built o-line and a similar d-line.

It's a reasonable option, especially for DTs with decent jumping. I have never pumped it, but I have had DTs with 4 in it and it seemed to help a bit.

Several seasons ago (probably a few years back maybe) I got on a team that was adamant about having Diving Tackle for ALL D-linemen and the reasoning was that (it seemed) more Diving Tackles were attempted by the D-line than anywhere else in the game. At first I wasn't so sure but I did it anyways and it really did help (along with other MT% and stuff you usually get). Now I try to make it a part of every D-line player I build unless it's a pure pass rusher.

Gang Tackle is another good option for DTs, as they will almost always have another defensive player within 2 yards.
