If you wanna make a defensive dot that can pad a lot of tackles... What would be the best position?

Doing this for the lulz

SS or FS, lots of vision.

Kinda depends more on the teams you face than the position of the build. If you play against a LOT of QB running teams, I'd build monster CB's (heavy with a LOT of strength and tackling skill). If you face a lot of heavy passing teams, I agree with the Beaver. (always wanted to say that.) If you face a lot of Power Back running teams, then DT's or LB's are the ticket.

Overall, if I really wanted a lot of tackle attempts (then, of course, build a dot that can tackle well enough), I'd go with MLB. It would need a damn good build but should be able to cover the field well enough to be in on most tackle attempts (so speed and agility to get to the ball carrier would be primary skills).

I don't think you can know the teams you'll be playing against so including that in your logic seems flawed.

What you COULD know is who your DC is, and how he will use your player...

My understanding was this was a stat-pad attempt so I was anticipating this being on a skeleton team run by the owner of the player, in which case a FS/SS would be the obvious choice since you have the most control over both where they are positioned and how they impact the game.

My thoughts were that a MLB relies heavily on quality DTs to even get attempts at tackles, since if his d-line is getting revcaked every play then the FB will have free reign to block the MLB... thus the SS/FS makes more tackles in this scenario.

A SS/FS will be able to make tackles on inside run, outside run, and pass attempts...

A player on a casual team with no other human dots on the defense, lol.

I just wanna pad tackles for the heck of it

Also, speed and agility to get to the ball carrier isn't exactly right either, speed and agility are important to ensure your player accomplishes his individual assignment to the best of his ability.

If you want lots of tackles, but don't care about the outcome of the game, go for VISION.

Who cares if every once in awhile a dot slips by you, with much higher vision you can ball-hawk to tackles all day.

I'm not opposed to this plan...For 30ish seasons now, I've gone with Vision as my +2 skill on on defensive backs (Speed #1), but I have played around with the idea of a Vision first build for a long time. Higher vision results in better play recognition, and the dots will position themselves to make plays.

Maybe a Hard Hitter AT with Agility being the 5th skill...

EDIT: Ball Hawk only works on pass plays, while the ball is in the air.

Then I agree with this. Either this or a MLB.
