Just because I've never tried it doesn't mean I suck.

I certainly dominate you at rookie though.

Guess we'll see

The whole "1 pound short of min/max" is part of JDBolick's build guide on dots with 4 major skills. The value is that you go from 67.9 to 68.9 for 3 SPs instead of 68 to 69 for 4 SPs if you were at min/max weight.

I agree but then there's this as well. Back in the day I use to build dots according to that 'perfect mathematical formula' and got burnt out on doing the same cookie cutter builds over and over and over again. So, since then, I've built 'specialty' dots and chose height and weight by what I wanted to accomplish rather than 3 vs 4 SP thing. Learned a lot along the way doing this and despite not building according to 'the plan', I've built some pretty useful and awesome dots (like Power WR's that are awesome outside blockers AND very useful receivers as well. They'll never be HOF'ers but they're useful, fun to build, and not 'clones'. I understand if you really want to build the best mathematical dots then JD's guide is a great start. But it's not the only way to enjoy the game.

I have never been one to build a dot solely for maximum EL. If I did that, I would end up with some really useless dots, IMO. I have always approached building from the point of view of,

"What do I want my dot to be able to do?"
"What would a dot look like that could achieve that goal?"
"How can I most efficiently build a dot like that?"

^^ this.

For an "inside out" runner, I've built my pHBs near to minimum weight and seen VERY little drop off in their Power Thru firing. For a pure short yardage back, I do go near max weight. Depends what you're building the dot for ... they do seem to accelerate much better after breaking a tackle when lighter.

The only no brainer part IMO is minimum height ... there's an old Q&A around somewhere where Bort mentioned shorter = better at breaking tackles.

I have literally the best powerback of all time and he's 5'11" 215.

18 rush 98 yards 1 td

Yes. Shorter dots get an advantage in balance. This was also covered in a Q&A about O-linemen and D-linemen builds. The taller the dot, the better the leverage... but the less balance.
