they don't inherently do anything.

when you set up your Defense AI, you can use them to call different plays.

for example, on the "elusive" tag, could use the Defensive Play Creator to move the SS and FS to the outside more helping contain runs.
note the SS and FS here, for example http://www.goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2774559&pbp_id=525281&flash=1

maybe using the "power" tag, you use the DPC to move the SS and FS into the box, giving you 9 defenders to stop runs up the gut.
Here (on the other team) the safeties are both inside http://www.goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2774559&pbp_id=525173&flash=1

think of tags as literal tags, or labels, that you use to call certain plays out of your entire playbook

the tags don't have any abilities themselves, you could use the one called "power" to move the Safeties outside -- as long as you know what "power" means when you're setting up your AI.

That's why there's 10 tags total including 3 custom tags. You could (if you were motivated enough) have 10 different variations of plays to call in every situation that your AI covers.

for example, maybe you're scouting your opponent really hard, and you find that on 3rd and long, when TE Mr. X comes on the field in the Single Back Big set, the team always calls the TE Drive play. So you could use a custom1 tag on that TE and move the FS and SS right to where the play throws to and cover that TE with the CB4 giving you 3 defenders to stop that one specific play in that exact situation.

In your Defense AI http://s30.postimg.org/leciqny0h/sc1b.jpg you use the "custom tag 1" to call a specific "output" play

The 1 output could be used to call a play like http://s8.postimg.org/vfulgj5px/sc1b.jpg

TJ, I believe he is a Casual owner/GM only so his question only will apply to the "tagged" defensive preset that can be used in Casual.

The Combo and elusive tags are not active in this preset, so they essentially do nothing. They should act the same as if the player was un-tagged, but i have seen some strange things happen with bad tags used.

For a HB, there are really only 3 options in the tagged preset, speedy, power, or receiver. I suppose you could tag someone as a blocker, but it really would be worthless.

What are the Tags for Tagged Defensive Preset?
Power (pHB) = running back that typically only runs between the tackles.
Blocker (bFB or bTE) = back or TE that typically is only in to block, not run routes.
Receiver (rHB, rFB, or rTE) = back or TE that typically is only in to run routes, not block.
Rusher (rQB) = rushing QB.
Speedy (sHB) = running back that typically only runs outside the tackles and is not called on often to run routes.

I have found that if you use anything other than the above (note specifics by positions), or no tag, that some weird stuff can happen on defense.
