I'm a total newbie here and basically don't understand anything so I'll just ask:

a) what does "dot" mean? I just can't figure it out. Are players called dot? why? whattaf?
b) should I create players now before new season? why now? why does it matter?
c) when does the signing to new teams start? Do I just wait for offers for my ultra-high-quality 1-level players or try to advertise them or just put 'em in a CPU team?

I've created 4 players so far and planning to create few more and maybe -just maybe - buy a team for next season just to get into the game and see how it goes.

You need to retire all 4 and make them between now and day 48. Unless they are day 0 they can't join a rookie team and at 4 to 19 days old they will be way under leveled in prep.

Don't buy a team just yet spend a season or 2 learning about the game then buy one.

A) Yeah, it's your player. Don't worry, I didn't get it either. But in the replay clips your players will usually appear as "dots".
B) I believe you can get more training points by creating from this day to day 48.
C) Signing starts tomorrow, since today is the freeze. You could wait, or advertise the player. All up to you, really.

All also good points.

Specially the team thing. No need to rush the process.

aaah, oki.

So just to clarify: if I create a new player today, he can join rookie teams for next season. Even tho they'll be like ~3 days old when the season actually starts?

And thanks !

Dot won't start aging until day 1 next season

a) As explained above they look like dots on the replays of games.

b) You can create between now and day 48. Either way you get training for the full period so the timing isn't critical of where in that period - i.e. a dot created day 45 isn't at a disadvantage to a dot create day 41 for example. The day 45 would get initial training tokens to compensate them for days "missed" versus creating at day 41. IT would be as if you created day 41 and had not yet trained. So there is no advantage d48 versus d41 per se.

Your dot doesn't "age" in the offseason. So all dots created between now and day 48 of this season will be "0 days old" all the way through the first actual day of the season next season (i.e. until day 1 of S47). This is important as stated above because rookie leagues restrict signings to age 0 dots. So if you start a dot before the offseason you won't be eligible to be signed to a rookie squad. And you'd have to be signed to the next level up team which will be level 19 dots at the start of S47. And no team with 40 day old dots wants to sign a dot who is 2 or 3 days old and many levels less than 19. The general plan is to create in the window after d40 and before end of d48. Obviously the sooner you create the more chance you have to find a team. So I wouldn't delay. Then boost your 3 levels after you train on d48. At rollover to s47 you'll now be level 4 but still 0 days old. Then keep training your first season and hold your boosts until the season is over.

c) Signing starts d42 for free agents. Once you are on a team most owners will resign you to an extension during the season so there is a chance you won't need to worry next off season. It only matters for free agents. There are forums devoted both dots seeking homes and teams looking for dots. You should post an ad for your dot and check out the teams looking for dots.

If you want a winning strategy, don't create a glamour dot and then seek a team. Nobody wants to hand over the QB slot to someone who doesn't know how to build yet anymore than an NFL team wants to hand over the QB slot to someone who as never played QB before. Well, except for maybe the Cleveland Browns. But you get my point. If I were new I'd go look for a team that is advertising for players and send a PM to the owner saying you are happy to make any dot he needs (think G, T, C) and would love to follow a build plan if he has one. Most owners won't turn that down. Once you show you are willing to stay active and can follow a build plan there will be other opportunities down the road to build a dot more of your liking in terms of position.

Meh. Point was most people sign up and probably envision building a "Skill position player" whereas if you go somewhere else in terms of position you are more likely to find a receptive audience as far as finding a home while you learn the ropes.
