What is the best way to scout offensive plays from a basic playbook OR any other alternative?

Hmmm... I'd say from the playbook. It should, at least, show you HOW the play is supposed to work (even if it doesn't). Then I'd be sure to check any plays you have questions about (working or not) by looking at some replays. On that end, It'd probably be better to check your own plays rather than hunt for other replays and hope you find what you're looking for (don't think there's a 'searchable index' of plays unless it's a grease monkey script.)

Or your own library of plays-which is your replays for your dots

What is the specific problem you are trying to solve?

http://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/offense_play_list.pl

You own a full AI team, so perhaps set up some custom packages and fill them with specific plays from the play list. Then run private scrims and run the packages in different quarters or different downs. Finally, scout the offense of your own team to see how they look in replays.

I presume you are looking to try out new plays and see how they work with your depth charts and current player builds.

You are right it is kind of poorly stated. I was trying to ask the best way to discover the best plays for me to put into my packages. I know that by watching my teams replays and scouting the things that work in our games I can come up with plays that will work for us. WHAT I am asking is - the only way to have random plays be used in scrimmages is by using a basic preset? I do not want to input dozens of plays and mess with depth positions players for multiple plays.

I have gotten into a rut by using about 25 or so plays the last few seasons and I need to diversify.

Would it work better if I just made a run playbook and a pass playbook and ran a basic preset in separate scrimmages with a depth chart not using my scat HBs, rTEs or bFB in the run game nor my Rushing HB,bTE or rFB in the passing game?

I would probably just set up your Basic Offense tactics tab with general settings first (100% basic playbook... 50% pass 50% run... etc.).

Then in the offensive Playcalling AI, you could add two new outputs. In the new output, instead of picking a package or a specific play, use the 3rd option and select Play Type. On downs and yardage where you want to run, set the play type to Run (random). On downs and yardage when you want to pass, set the play type to Pass. When you want both options, add two outputs and set them to 50% each. There are further options for which depth chart slots you want to use, etc, under the Play Type option as well.

You could even modify a current AI to test it out without much added work. Maybe just add the two outputs to your offense's 1st down AI input, set them to 50% each and set your other current packages to 0%, as an example.

Last couple of ideas I'll leave the thread with, in case they help too...

Another idea, rather than using the same plays season after season, would be to periodically scout the offenses of just the top teams in the league to get an idea of what plays are working well at that dot level. Of course, your team would have to have the builds to carry out the same gameplan as the teams you are modeling against.

Additionally, you defensive scout the team you are facing next, then just force yourself to set new plays in a few main packages from the scouting. As example, select plays for a main pass, outside rush, and inside rush package, plays that worked well against that team and their defensive setup, to mix things up and keep your offense from getting scouted as well by the better DCs you would be facing.
