What is the difference between building a dot on day40/48 compated to day -8/-1 of the following season?

I think you just miss out on the previous seasons boost.

You still get the same amount of TPs though. Confirmation anyone?

You'll be 3 levels behind your age group until plateau when you will get those boosts back and still be level 79

This. You'll also get slightly more efficient training gains, though I'll leave it to you to decide if that's worth it in the end.

I do know that my experience with 3-level-behind dots is that they're still very competitive, as long as they're still built properly.

there is no difference, you get TP's retroactive as if you built day 40 , pretty sure that last till day 0 then reverts back to starting at 12 again.
