once you hit decline, is it pointless to assign any more SPs into any attribute ... basically should in all go into special abilities for there on out?

Not pointless.
You just have to decide where your SPs will get you the most value. It's exactly the same as pre-decline except for the decline effects. If you are uber uber into decline, like 3+ seasons, I guess.

it's not pointless at all, can be used to stave off the decline... offset it if you will
just wouldn't recommended doing it with attributes that cost more than 3SP to +1.
but then again I have only ever played 2 seasons into decline with any of my dots. I usually retire them a season or 3 befoe plateau. I get bored with them easily.
