If I joined a team, am I stuck on it until the season is over? I joined a CPU team but I'd like to get on a player owned team if possible!

You are always open to receiving/accepting contract offers when on a CPU-controlled team. Teams will be able to offer you contracts exactly the same way they would if you were a free agent.

And also, you need to be on a team... ANY team.. to be able to build your dot and get XP for playing in games. So I would suggest you list your dot in the marketplace and also post it in the forum and hope you get an offer. Otherwise just ride it out and use the time to build for next season.
