this has nothing to do with tat... if offense gets that, defense should get tagging and custom D-line...

this is about player tactics and not custom positions

OK, fine then allow O-line blocking to change depending on the play call, just like an O-linemen would do in real life with no +/- penalty.

+1000 ... great suggestion, *but* seems to me like it'd require a pretty hefty overhaul and not holding my breath.

that makes sense to me, and I've always been a proponent of this in particular. I've always thought that pass vs run block should be defined via their build and not their tactics

edit: to elaborate. I've always thought the blocking tactics should be more of a slider with one end being hold the block and the other end being focus on pancake / moving the defender. That would make more sense and could apply for both passing and rushing. In fact I'd even be fine with situational of that to, a slider for run plays and a slider for pass plays.

well in terms of coding I think it's easy. Since the settings exist it would be just telling the sim which setting to use based on who the defender is tackling. For a game balance issue, it'd need to be tested, but I think that this would have minimal impact on the game, and would allow for the secondary to specialize a bit... don't think the offense would change much except for maybe a slightly higher carrying. I could see the need for making KLs a little harder to get on balanced if testing showed too many KL passes.

-1 but good idea, Like Hatch Said, The Player Tactic thing is so much of a headache, I say do away with them all together.

Question then. Wouldn't this ability water down the need for O-line archetypes? As it is now, a team could carry 10 O-linemen, 5 pass type and 5 run type... and go that route. Most do. But if I could take a Run block guard and adjust his slider to a slightly pass oriented setting, then I would get the benefit of that setting while limiting the damage of being "set for pass block", which is absolute. Don't get me wrong... I really like the thought of a slider setting rather than what we have now... I just am pondering how it effects the current system and archetypes.

in any MMO focus is important... taking a run blocker and using the slider to make them more of a pass blocker will always be worse than a pass blocker that is set to a more pass block tactic setting
