On this play:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2356155&pbp_id=6353296

...the FS is playing in the CB5 slot. I don't know why, he's not set up to play any CB positions.
CB3 should be playing CB5 in five CB sets. The CB3(1) is on the bench.
This team has only 5 CB's. In 5 CB situations shouldn't ALL the starting CB's in those slots be on the field?

Your CB5 is set up as follows:
No one puts the smurfy in
ZOU Smurf

No one was put into CB3, ZOU was in CB4. You had no players left to sub into CB 5 so it picked a FS.

If you want the other CB (World war I flying ace) to come in CB5 then you needed to have him in CB5 as well.

You have options on how to fix this.
One is don't use CB1-5.
Second is to add more players to your depth positions so that if you run into a situation like this, you don't make the sim pick who goes in for you.

The sim picks players in order based on energy...

CB1 - Smurf Lightyear (1st on DC for this CB1, his energy must be above advanced energy minimums)
CB2 - Findin' Smurf Berries (1st on DC for this CB2, his energy must be above advanced energy minimums)
CB3 - No one puts Smurfy in the corner (2nd on DC for CB3. World War I Flying Ace he has been subbed out and will come back in once energy is high enough according to advanced energy settings)
CB4 - Z.O.U Smurf (1st on DC for this CB4, his energy must be above advanced energy minimums)
CB5 - Only two options listed. One is at CB3 and the other at CB4. At this point the sim decides who to put in. As far as I know, that algorithm has never been made public (perhaps because no one asked).

I understand what your saying alindyl.

My thought process on this is that I have all 5 CB's playing at all of the 5 CB slot positions.
If at any time the sim see's a 5 CB set, I have all of my CB(1)'s playing 1 through 5 in that order.
Why would it not trigger this way? I'm sure it makes too much sense for Bort to fix this....

It will draw from your "CB" depth slot if you don't have anyone specified in a CB1-5 slot or if the players in the CB1-5 slots are already playing at another position. The fix to this is to add your CBs to the CB depth chart slot... if a CB is not on the depth chart your depth chart will look to another player that is.

Advanced energy comes into play. The code is written to do exactly what you tell it to 100% of the time. Having different code for each formation would be hard to maintain and that is generally avoided (not just by Bort).

Now, the question you could legitimately ask is, how does the sim fill a spot in a situation such as this? If it were me, I'd create a "default depth chart" for the position and rank any player not in the play on out of position penalty (descending). Then I'd take the first player who had an energy level appropriate to a team's advanced energy settings for the position I needed to fill.

OK, I got it. Will have that fixed soon.
Thanks for all the quick responses. I'll take it as a learning experience.
