Is there some button to press or something to tell this thing that I've read the post in a forum?

I keep going back to one of the forums I am in because it says new and there is no new posts. I've tried opening up the last half dozen posts to see if it will go away, but no luck.

Thanks.

Probably means a thread either got stickied or un-stickied, or perhaps locked or unlocked.

Just keep clicking on threads. Eventually you'll find the magic one.

That's why in all of my own forums, if I sticky or un-sticky a thread, I always post in that thread to say "Stickied" or "Un-Stickied" so that the thread itself gets marked as "NEW". That way, the borderline-OCD peeps (like myself) don't have to hunt for the thread.

Not the answer I had hoped for, but thanks for the response.

It's been an issue for some for a while now and has been suggested. Might check out the "suggestions" (under the Admin Announcements tab on your homepage) and see if it's up for a vote and help support it. I seem to remember the title as "Allow Mark as read for forums" as the title... or something to that effect. If it's not there, it's still alive (hopefully) in the Suggestions Forum... somewhere.

Just one of the quirks of GLB's forum system. Nobody likes it, but that doesn't change it.

I'll do that. It seems like a rather easy fix for such an annoying problem

There's also the issue of when a moderator has to remove a thread from public view. The 'new' will still show for old thread location. There will be no easy way for the user to get the 'new' to disappear (besides wait).

Oddly enough if I provide the link to the old thread and the user clicks on it, even though they will be redirected due to lack of permissions the 'new' will go away.
