Where most people go wrong is they either chase or give up. Stick to your plan, and you'll more often than not end up with a better dot.

Abso-fraggin-lutely.

Very easily. Its called being smart. 100BT's isnt worth the +3 you lose in speed imo
You turn down the 100 BTs for +3 to probably the 2nd most important attribute? What could be done with those 100 BTs? That is basically 1 regular season of multi-training (not quite, but close). That means you could very well only lose 2 points to your main attribute if that is one of the attributes you unlocked and you have the extra 3 points to your 2nd most important attribute which will also has a direct effect on the speed of a dot. Further, you will likely gain another point in 2 other important attributes and an extra point in your agility.

So recap:
You accepted a good piece at a 100 BT savings
This enabled you to train multiple attributes longer
You lost 2 points to speed
You gain 4 points to agility
You gain a point to one other really important attribute
you gain at least a point (likely more) in an attribute that will be a help

Therefore, it is possible that your dot is better off accepting the +3 to agility than going and trying to find something better which you may not find or than even just from that point building the perfect piece.
