Never read the tip before today in player creation, but it describes taller players are easier to knock off balance. Anyone noticed if it's better to make them short and fat instead of tall and fat?

Shorter and fatter makes em stronger and block better (at creation)

Height might affect vision checks to see blitzes coming...but I'm not sure about that.

I know taller D linemen can knock down passes better, or at the least they need to be a certain height just to apply the Towering Man VA.

I am sure it plays some kind of role in in the sim. For me it's mainly about getting +2 to an attribute upon creation, but I'm sure there is more to it than just that

Vision bonus.

Shorter and fatter makes them slower to move as well. Shorter and lighter weight allows them more mobility for when they have to run out for pitches and screens or to drop back faster for those speed/agility DE's.

Taller guys have a bigger 'engage' block radius, but Id have to look at old Bort / Catch22 quotes to confirm this

it *should* but I don't think it does, fwiw.

Ya I don't believe I ever seen this in the Bort Quotes either. Bort mostly talks about the nature of balance with height and weight and the vision bonus's for height.

I thought taller players held blocks better ?
Pretty sure I remember quotes to that effect way back.

Personally, I think ht/wt is a much bigger factor than often assumed.

I apologize for having a nice little migrane so I couldn't find the thread about this and tag it here... but I remember the gist of it.
Shorter = better base so not as easy to knock down.
Taller = better leverage to knock down opponent.

I think that's why O-linemen (in GLB) usually are short and D-linemen are tall. That and batting down passes at LOS.

Apparently my flex purchases still weren't enough as GLB wiki still not working, $7.99 must be too steep

November 25, 2011 Question Does height factor in the break block roll? Does height or lack there of (both for blocker and blockee) affect the hold block roll?

Answer Taller players are easier to knock off balance of and therefore pancake or revcake if you are beating them (this applies to areas other than blocking, where balance comes into play, like breaking tackles), but taller players also are better at holding blocks.

November 25, 2011 Question You have mentioned several times that weight has some sort of mitigating or limiting effect on dot veloctiy. Could you tell us if this factor is "smooth" and linear in relationship, or are there "weight brackets" of some sort that form a step-function in the weight-to-speed attribute factoring for dot-velocity purposes?

Answer It's linear. Each pound makes a difference plus or minus.

October 1, 2011 Question You have two identical dots, all attributes, SA's, and VA's are equal. One is taller than the other. Does the taller one run just as fast, faster, or slower than the shorter one?

Answer They run the same velocity. Weight affects velocity, not height. Height affects jumping and balance.

July 29, 2011 Question Any word on preventing everyone from trying to min/max height and weight?
Answer No. And not all people do min/max.

February 9, 2011 Question Does a players height affect his arm length? For example, does a 6'5" OL have longer arms than a 6'2" OL? If so, does this affect in any way the blocking rolls or are dots armless? (I ask because if ht doesn't give blockers longer reach, there is no reason to ever choose anything other than a min height OL).

Answer Height gives a player more leverage, giving him a bonus to pushing the other guy down. Being short helps keep from being pushed down, due to a lower center of gravity. Height doesn't increase blocking radius.

March 12, 2010 Question Do the effects of height and weight in the correlate pretty strongly with the bonuses they give upon rolling or is the interaction between height and weight more complex? For example, does a 5'10 olineman that weighs 300 lbs have the same agility as a 5'10 olineman that weighs 270lbs? Does the heavier olineman of the same height have a penalty to agility in addition to speed because of his weight, despite the fact that they are the same? Another example: a 6'3" 210 lbs CB vs. a 6'3" 180lbs CB--does the decrease in weight help overall movement or just speed?

Answer Much more complicated. The bonuses at creation are there to give some choices when choosing ht/wt.
Bort
February 19, 2010 Question Why can't we remove height / weight as a factor on attributes?

Answer If ht/wt no longer affect anything, max speeds would have to be dictated by player position, which is less dynamic than dictating it by weight.

February 7, 2010 Question How exactly does weight and height affect players?

Answer Weight makes players move more slowly, but makes them more powerful blockers, tacklers, and rushers. Tall players are more likely to bat down or catch high passes, but shorter players have a lower center of gravity and are harder to knock over.

February 7, 2010 Question How exactly does weight and height affect players? Weight makes players move more slowly, but makes them more powerful blockers, tacklers, and rushers. Tall players are more likely to bat down or catch high passes, but shorter players have a lower center of gravity and are harder to knock over. What confuses me is that one of the best powerbacks (if not the best) weighed 181 pounds in Jedi knight. The WPL MVP in season 13 was Project Marcie. Is there some factor that helps these SMALL power backs break tackles? Obviously their size is counter intuitive to what one would project to be a successful powerback. Might it have something to do with their more rapid acceleration due to their small stature? Perhaps they can simply get back up to full speed quicker due to an acceleration boost due to small size.

Answer I think you answered your own question. Addition from Catch22: Catch22 - I think it's answered in Bort's answer. Shorter players have a lower center of gravity and are harder to knock over.

February 6, 2010 Question One time Height/Weight reset for existing players?

Answer So...you want to be able to reset something you were able to roll for in the first place? Why didn't you just roll for the ht/wt you wanted when you rolled initially? You wouldn't be getting the penalties and bonuses from the new system, so seems kinda moot to me. I'm not going to spend time building a special tool for something that really doesn't matter that much.

Taller players are better at holding blocks, so your STs blockers who engage early should be tall and agile.

Thanks oaklandraider. I knew I'd seen it somewhere... I just had a pounder that wouldn't let me deal with much thinking.
