If they aren't, it really isn't any of your concern.

I see almost no downside but just an opening for more people to be assholes about something.

I signed a dot last season that had a solid EL. He didn't sign on at all after signing his contract. I have no idea if he had experienced periods of inactivity before so this may not have helped me.
