I tried searching the Wiki for different combinations of the question but couldn't find anything that answered my question, so here it goes:

What attributes and AEQ go in to a catch ball attempt vs a deflect ball roll and how are they decided if equal?

My defenses are continually beaten in the passing match-ups, especially in 1 vs 1 [I'm also seeing a LOT more 1 vs 2 situations this season] when the CB's and WR's "look" identical AEQ-wise [+%CP vs. +%DP].

Agility and vision are close to the same, height/weight, jumping....almost identical.

Obviously catching is higher for the WR's, would that mean in order to be completely on par with WR's CB's would need to invest in catching as well?

Thanks!

It is fairly complicated as there are lots of situations, but the general gist is (if I'm the CB): - I have to see the ball is coming in the first place (vision check) - I have to get into position near enough the the ball to interact with it (speed/agility etc) - I have to check if I am even going to get a chance to interact with the ball (Int check? No? Swat check instead?) - If I'm near the WR, I have to fight with him to see who gets a chance at the ball (my roll vs his roll) - If I win, I get to intercept or swat the ball. (depends on first roll type that succeeded, and if the WR gives me trouble catching it) - If I lose, the receiver gets to try and catch the ball. It's all up to him now, though my being close by makes it harder on him. - If the receiver fails to catch the ball, I get once more chance to try and intercept it if I am close enough. - If the receiver catches it, now I've got to tackle him. Here's my chance to knock it loose with a good hit

Awesome thanks. Mind telling me where you found that?

I guess what I don't understand is Bort's statement completely contradicts what I see happening.

Example - CB
Higher - Speed/Agility/Vision <-- Look to be the biggest attributes needed to see, and deflect incoming passes
Equal - AEQ DP+% <-- This must be a part of the roll to see who gets a chance at the ball?
Lower - Jumping/Catching, Height/Weight <-- Variables? Strength?

Example - WR
Higher - Catching/Jumping, Height/Weight
Equal - AEQ CP+%
Lower - Speed/Agility/Vision

So in theory, the CB above should have more opportunities to not only be in position to deflect the pass, but intercept [hard with low catching] as well.

Just click on the Wiki tab at the top. Once your at the Wiki page you will see "GLB QA/Bort Stalker" and the "navigation by topic" link right below it. Just click on the navigation by topic link and type in a word like catching or pass deflection or whatever.

To clarify something, you can't treat +% catch and +% deflect as equal, and likewise compare attributes of equal value, because you don't know the underlying equations for the rolls.

90 jumping may mean more towards a CB's deflect roll than 90 jumping means for a WR's catch roll.

Just seems like a lot of smoke with no definite answers then.

Without knowing what is more important for builds, it's all a crap shoot IMO. If high vision and jumping are the most important factors in a PD roll, would have to think that comparable attributes from a WR would have to be as important in the catch roll.

Double coverage doesn't seem to be near as much of a penalty for WR's either. I've seen numerous passes completed where you can't even see the offensive dot.

Oh well...another of GLB's mysteries.
