STs is more about the blocking set up by whoever does the depth chart. You could do just fine with a FB for that matter.

IMHO... carrying is more important than agility. Fumbles on returns are a game breaker, not to mention carry will increase tackle breaking chance.

agility will let you get more yards on average, but a fumble returned for a touchdown will ruin your day

My Returner has fumbled once in 5 seasons. The chance is there, yes, but agility is more important than carrying because it allows you to make the cuts and jukes. Oh and I am using the dreaded WR as my returner. I've had more success with WRs than CBs. Didn't try HB until this season but that's for a Pee Wee team so it doesn't even matter. If I were to be able to start over, I'd probably go HB from everything I've read about them.

still loving this thread... very rare for there to be so many different views on a particular build/position... keep it going.

I started with a WR returner... had good success. Tried the CB returner next... had better success. Now I'm going all out with HB's and it's looking awesome.
You're right about the blocking though. I don't care how good your returner is, if your setup is wrong (where you put your dots on ST's), you're screwed. And that is an art form of many discussions and thoughts of it's own... but I got mine and they work fine.

If you can afford it, HB. And the order of priority is speed > agility = carrying > strength > vision > stamina > confidence > SAs > jumping. Aim for 158/90/90/80/70/65/50 along with 10 Juke and Spin, 8 RS and/or HF and/or QC, and 6 Cover Up and you should be good with the proper AEQ.

p solid advice but I'd put more emphasis on the QC. The one "big cut" that gets by the coverage unit that has abandoned their lanes too early is as important as the tackle breaking dynamic in GLB's current special teams.

Can you have success with a WR? The first build proves that you can.
Should you build an elusive HB? The second build proves that you should. (take the points out of catching and put them into RS and you have 'the' gold standard in returner builds IMO.

Carrying should be the second attribute for the following reasons:
1) fumble protection;
2) firing fake SAs;
3) firing break SAs;
4) general tackle avoidance;
5) it increases at 0.05 per VA instead of 0.03.

One advantage of WR is for using a free player ... Very hard to find a time to get a HB as a free player, while a WR can be had at anytime.

I'm surprised you use Steady Grip.

And here's a pretty good HB returner: http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2494933

I might try increasing speed, but I find that you get better ypc with a bit more break and fake than with a bit more speed.

I might try and go higher speed on my newest return HB and see if it works similar to how YMX's higher speed helped him a lot. Though getting the same difference will be difficult with most coverage dots now running 155 speed at the minimum.
