it's not that teams don't take it serious, it's that you have pretty much nothing to go off scouting, so you generally just go with base offense/defense based on your read of the pre-season scrim. In addition, a lot of teams still have plenty of SP/VPs to apply, among other things. So, sure teams want to win it, but it's much more of a crap shoot typically week 1.

I just make sure my offense is abotu as good as I think it can be with out looking at the other teams defense. I dont start watching game film to week 2
