to properly put this so that is actually benefits someone trying to use retirement flex to extend team ownership without contacting support - because that is really the only reason to do this

Not to steal Yello's thunder on this..some people will only look at the original OP and not any improvements...pretty narrow minded, but hey are we really surprised?

Okay here goes...If an agent wants to retire his dot from a non-playoff team prior to day 41:

Step 1: The agent selects the retirement option.
Step 1.5: Agent selects "retire from team with owner approval" checkbox
Step 2: A notification is sent to that team owner letting them know that this player wants to retire.
Step 3A: The owner agrees, and the funds are taken from the team money to pay the remainder of the season's wages.
Step 3B: The owner disagrees, and the player remains with the team as the team is still in the GLB tournament, or is in other tournaments, or is running scrimmages to test out AIs
Step 4: The players is immediately put in retirement. This keeps there from being any chance of that player not actually retiring and trying to sign with another team.
Step 5: A signing freeze for the team that allowed the dot to retire goes in place to prevent them from using this as a method to recruit early (although free agent dots would likely not be good, but if someone sold a team there could be decent dots available)

If there are holes here I don't see them, but if you do please state them because I am sure it could be tweaked to cover any.

Addendum to all this is if the owner selects the retirement option, and there are no games left on the team's schedule, the dot does not need owner approval, but salary and signing freeze still apply (salary would apply if this happened on day 39).

Now, as you can see, this is not as simple as it is being made out to be, so I anticipate more negative responses than positive

of course, if you needed 400 FP to renew a team all you have to do is sell of the CE for 630 FP and none of this is needed either

some kind of freeze would be critical. i'm sure most of us have seen farm teams go belly up so that the players could move up.. you could potentially gain 9 days of rebuilding chemistry if well co-ordinated.

I wonder if 3A and 3B couldn't be combined by simply allowing the team owner to choose which day the "retirement" takes place? This way, if the team WAS still active and wanted to keep the dot for that activity, the owner wouldn't have to come back and do it over again after team became inactive.
TOTALLY agree with #4.
Unsure of #5 as I didn't know you could sign dots in the playoffs (and the Yellow OP was for teams PAST the regular season).

Good lord ... so to satisfy yello's desire to retire a dot prior to d41, you want to add all that mess?

hell no. his reasoning is wrong as usual, but does have a point that there are some people that might benefit from this.

Well although I don't have a problem with the OP additions, aren't they pretty self explanatory?

1.5, the agent selects retirement and it is sent to the team owner for approval if the player is under contract, no need for a separate option here really.
3A, well of course the player stays on the roster if the owner disagrees. that would be the whole reason for the owner notification wouldn't it?
5, I didn't think playoff teams could sign players either, but it doesn't matter anyway because as written, the player is immediately retired and wouldn't even exist any more to be signed by any team.

They should merge this thread with Raiders' thread and just delete yello's imo.

The more conditions you put in a suggestion, the less likely anyone will be bothered to even code it - not that it's worth coding it to begin with.

That's the plan.

They can't.

If a team is in the playoffs it can not sign a player even if it has an open roster slot.

oh look, yello is wrong again....lol

a team cant SEND out offers, but if the offer is already out there, the player can accept. and yes, i know this as a fact because 2 seasons ago, i had players sign offers with my team during the playoffs.

Um

Context is important.

In this context of a player releasing between Day 32 and 40, and being concerned that a playoff team could sign the dot, there could not be an existing offer made before the playoffs.
