Forum > Suggestions > Bruiser VA - adding some break tackle after 8 yards - from Q & A

I get sick of seeing powerbacks get tackled and taken down at 8.5 yards. I see it constantly. I pray that all the CB's try to tackle my powerback before he gets to the 8 yard line because once he gets past it, he gets tackled.

Three major problems with the logic of taking away all the break tackle ability from bruiser VA:

1.) Relative to an elusive back, a powerback should ALWAYS be harder to take down, no matter where he his on the field.

2.) Powerbacks, generally speaking are almost always slower than elusive backs. This is due in large part to speed as a minor, but also to the fact that powerbacks are heavier. So if a power back is slower, more dots can catch up and tackle. An elusive back, if untouched after 8 yards almost never gets touched again and DOESNT need the 30% break tackle (after 8 yards, for accurate comparison). So to take away ALL the break tackle ability of a power back is nonsense simply because he WILL be tackled because half the D will catch him. Removing the break tackle ability after 8 yards largely stacks the game against them relative to an elusive back.

3.) Elusive backs also get the bonus to spin and fakes by being on the elusive side of the slider bar. To my knowledge, power backs get no direct bonus to power thru, stiff arm, or lower the shoulder by being on the power side of slider bar. Borts thoughts on this: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=4976524&page=6#46175075

One possible way to remedy this: Keep the current 3% break tackle per point within 8 yards, but after 8 yards, make it a 1% break tackle chance per point. Its still only half of an elusive backs full 30%, but it gives them some extra break tackle chance. Or make it 0.75% per level, or 0.5%. Or maybe there is another way to do it??

This play is a good example of what Im talking about: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2121323&pbp_id=7840930
1st broken tackle is on a 242 lbs ROLB.
2nd broken tackle is on a diving tackle from a 196 lbs SS within 8 yards
Tackle is done by a 192 lbs FS that likely has poor tackling attributes (I dont know what they are) and is built for pass deflections/INT's, but makes the tackle because the bonus from bruiser VA is gone.

Bruiser also only gives a bonus to the one Power Back SA. Three of the Elusive Backs tree of SA's get a bonus from quick feet VA. I saw it suggested somewhere they all be dependent on separate VAs, but making bruiser inclusive of other Power Back SAs would equal it out just as well. Then again, there are plenty of broken tackles already, do we need more. IMHO, no, but making power through dependent on a slider same as the elusive abilities is a pretty good idea. I think both style backs should get a penalty based on how extreme they go on their slider though. With PHBs I'd penalize speed, on elusive backs, I'd make em fumble machines inside if they are super elusive.

Seeing as Catch22 said we will be exiting beta at the end of this season...

Do it nao.

Bruiser needs modification of some sort to balance it out with elusives.

Oddly enough, Bort says this hasn't been talked about much. Now here we are at the eleventh hour. Let's find a way to balance the two running styles....a way that won't cause a bunch of whining from either the offense or defense.

Does anyone know if a power runners take a speed hit while breaking a tackle? I was thinking how much the runner slows should be proportional to the strength of the defender, if it isn't already. I haven't noticed anything much in replays as of yet.

Bort is still butt hurt by S8* and S28*
He knows that the quickest way to kill the game is to have dominant power backs trundling up and down the field.

Because of that, powerbacks will always be a little underpowered now imo

I believe its correlated to two things:
1.)quality of tackle, which is tied to strength, tackling, and loosely agility .
2.) How much break tackle% that then factors into a players end break tackle roll. If break tackle roll is much greater than the make tackle roll, very little slowing happens.

I notice my powerback slow down at various times. I believe thats what shed weight VA is supposed to help counteract, preventing a guy from holding on and slowing your guy down more.
