I never really understood what they are and what they do? Are they mainly for owners of teams?

They are more for "Customization". Pretty much they are user created tools to help you out with smaller stuff. Such as the Virtual Player Builder, where you can plan out your players builds.

You can use them for shit outside of this game too. But for this purpose of this game there are so many scripts that help you and make the game more enjoyable. There is a script that highlights your players in the game so you always know which plays they are in and so on.

The list is endless to the help that scripts can do for you. ITS WORTH IT MAN.....DO IT!!!

+1 GLB without many of the GM scripts is like a scoop of ice cream--GM is the caramel sauce, whipped cream, chopped almonds, bananas, and the cherry on top
