While I don't know a lot. Based on all the calculations I ran, its best to boost 1 time season 1 around day 8 - 15. At day 48 boost 2X. I ended up with more left over SP and had to trade less BTs in for SP to get there. This is after running both scenarios about 5 times consistently.

From top to bottom...

Assuming you pre-boost to L4 in the off-season...

If you at least wait until day 32 of season 1 (or after your last regular season game is played) you get 625 XP every game. That allows you hit L19 on day 40 when daily XP shuts off.

In season 2, if you did that, there is no benefit to be gained from waiting to boost as the next game XP plateau is L16-31, which you will get through either way. As long as you boost at or before L22 (boost into L25 or lower) you'll get max VXPs.

In season 3, which are the University leagues, as long as you've boosted every season so far, you start at L32. You can either boost to L35 right away to get the VXP increase (and play better), or eek out a few more XPs by waiting to boost until day 32.

However, at this point, as long as you boost every season, no matter when you choose to do it, you'll hit L79. The more often you wait to boost, the sooner your daily and game XP will shut off to prevent breaking the L79 hard cap.

I would boost early so you can help your team out during the season and help secure a solid playoff position. If you wait to late you might just end up costing your team a playoff shot.

I am sure boosting late helps your player in the long run but I am all about doing whats best for the team.

That is meaningless. Boosting early in the first seasons might cost the team SEVERAL playof shots when it really matters, at higher levels.

What's best for the team is if all players boost at the proper times.

Great stuff guys.

I apologize for the noob question, but can you only boost 3 lvls per season? Or can you somehow boost more than that? Is free boosting the same as flex point boosting?

Boosts are indeed limited to 3 per season. There's no way around that. This keeps everyone's level in check (can't just pay your way instantly to the top).

And yes, boosts on a 'free' player are exactly the same as one coming from actual flex points.

The only exception is if you did not boost from level 1 to level 4 the initial season you created a dot. When you hit level 73 (assuming you boosted every season after that) GLB will allow you to have 6 boosts which is the 3 boosts you normally get and they will allow 3 more boosts so you can hit level 79.
