I'm not sure if I've seen this suggested in the Suggestions forum. Has someone suggested making custom fields part of this game? I'm not talking about the 3rd party script. I'm referring to making it a feature for every team at GLB.

I believe bort has said no because he didn't want people putting up fields full of genitals or obscenity or fields full of dots etc.

I couldn't find a bort post, it might have been catch22 quoting bort or maybe someone else said it. But i don't think they want to add user editable fields.

Maybe being able to pick from some pre-made fields but i wouldn't count on anything you can upload/linked to being added.

Couldn't they do it like they do name changes? Submit it and get admin approval and done.

Sure, lots of things they can do. But any time you have to manually check things, it requires another person to sit there and do that.

And beyond just that, then you have to have someone making a judgement call on appropriateness of a field. Do the fields have to look like a football field? Can you mark every 4 yards instead of every 5? Can you have a field full of my little pony's? How much crying will there be when someone submits a field they think is perfectly fine and appropriate to their team name and it's rejected? What about people submitting fields just to be funny?

It would be nice to see, but it's really one of those things that when it's implemented it would end up being a mess. And then do you make bort store the picture for each field on his servers? You couldn't allow links (like the replay rewrite script does) since those could be changed as simply as renaming a file on the linked to site.

There are hundreds of thousands of player avis and a few thousand team logos and they seem to manage that okay.

Imagine if they allowed the use of .gifs.....nothing would be cooler than a swirling black hole centered out of the 50 yd line.

I suggested adding the replay rewrite scripts and they said it would be too difficult.

True, but in my opinion "finished" game would not need it's customers to take care of these things. I think if we ever leave beta and get an influx of new players dots on custom fields could add the awe factor that could catch their attention.
