I seem to recall this being suggested a long time ago. Basically it was not something that was going to happen because people retroactively changing titles after people post responding to one thing, and making it appear they were saying something else.

It was this mainly...

"+1 or -1 on the current sim?"

followed by lots of responses of "-1"

followed by changing thread title to "Bort should send hot girls to everyone's house"

Perhaps having it in the edit. Edited title from "________ to ________" would alleviate this

I say the ability to delete your own threads would solve this so if you screw up just delete and start a new one

I agree with Chysil here and think a -1 for OP. However, it would be nice to have a "are you sure?" pause before posting a titled thread (as in, you click to submit thread and you get a "Are you sure?" button before finalizing... allowing you to look over ONE LAST TIME what you are submitting to be sure of title and spelling). I know this exists in GLB because it's the same for when you're retiring a player.

Mind = Blown

Edit: As long as the deleted thread is still viewable by admins....

I really don't see this as being a big concern.

Make it so that you are only allowed to edit the title one time per thread, within 1 minute of creating it.

that should solve most problems associated with CN's point imo.

My biggest concern though was people changing the title of the thread every 5 seconds just to throw people off and whatnot.
I think only allowing it to be edited once within 1 minute is probably going to eliminate 95+% of those types of issues.

ETA: also, it would be really simple to take a screen shot of any offensive, ban-worthy titles as evidence (I realize these can be tampered with as well, but as DV pointed out so can quotes)

Or if you want to edit it, then it goes to a mod to be approved.

Would be nice to have it if people could use it responsibly, but as we all know, that doesn't happen here.

Just PM a mod if you typo or whatever.

Absolutely this. It would just become another stupid forum "game" for idiots to play.

I can see why there's some resistance to renaming threads in public forums.

but in private forums, none of those issues apply, they aren't moderated and it's just whoever chooses to be in the forum anyway, so we should have the ability to edit those. Maybe allow both the poster who started the thread, and the person who started the forum as a sort of "mod" in that forum, to change titles, so if there's a typo or a desire for consistent formatting or whatever, private forum thread titles can be changed without having to request support for each one.
