1) Reign in PeeWee Leagues, eliminating them as a standard league and converting them to one of the specialty leagues. This is logical given PeeWee's recent lack of interest and general confusion with Rookie vs PeeWee for new(b) players to the game.

2) Create an Ironman specialty league. A league where players are forced to play both sides of the ball in some fashion. Maybe just curb the roster size and let team's strategize and implement what they feel are best methods for success. Allow for 1 season insta-level xx players. Since this can be done on the test server I'm sure the code is easily adaptable.

3) Create a 'Super Hero' specialty league. A league where players are allowed to have old-school stacked AEQ. Allow for 1 season insta-leveled players. No need for simulated VPB, just a set amount of BTs (large enough for 4 EQ and an added SA) given along with 500+ SPs.

Leagues would be purely demand based (maybe use a modified wait list in order to gauge the maximum quantity of leagues to be generated) and have tournaments (to determine who is the best across all the leagues).

There could also be a reward point prize for winning your league (and or tournament). This would further incentive participation in the specialty leagues from season to season.

Mat, I disagree with you a little on PeeWee leagues. The change that needs be made is to make PeeWee league dots AUTOMATICALLY recycle themselves rather than the way it is now. Also, PeeWee dots should cost a little less and even go as far to change the name from PeeWee leagues to Beginner leagues, along with a disclaimer just for that... saying, to the effect that, "This league is for beginning players, coaches, and team owners. Teams and Dots built here stay here and are recycledat the end of every season." I believe this would be good for those who want to learn the game from any perspective. This way the "PeeWee leagues have a place AND a meaning. AND this would also allow you to shrink down the size of the league as you suggested.

+1 to rotation of special rules leagues (iron man, pre-pass leagues, etc etc)

-1 to dumping Pee Wee. There are folks who are dedicated to it and do nothing else.

Calling the Peewee Leagues "Beginner" will piss off those PeeWee diehards. I'd much rather keep those lame threads locked away.

Name change not absolutely necessary but the rest of the post should work. Also, those so "dedicated" to the PeeWee leagues. I would think they would like the auto-recycle idea. Would save a lot of time and effort.

all for any/all of these (and more--like having nonboosting leagues, leagues that allow ZERO magic items (equipment), and maybe a specialty throwback leagues that would undo APD and/or age-based leagues)

but #3 worries me

I suspect this would attract 80% of all GLB players and everything else would die. Would have to be severely limited

But is that a bad thing?

I was thinking as I headed back into this thread to plus one it again with the note that you could test run alot of concepts in the specialty league arena that could eventually be moved to the main leagues if found to be fun.

Injury League

Another type of specialty league could be - Injury League. Work out an injury system. It would have to be something that the chance of injury was altered by the player's build and tactical choices, so there could be control over it.

Types of Injury

Pre-Injury. Decreases energy and maximum energy by 5. Increases the chance for higher injury. Heals at a Stamina % chance each roll over.

Minor Injury. Minus 1% to players attributes and skills. Decreases energy and maximum energy by 10. Increases the chance for higher injury. Heals at a Stamina % chance each roll over.

Significant Injury. Minus 5% to players attributes and skills. Decreases energy and maximum energy by 15. Increases the chance for higher injury. Heals at a 1/2 Stamina % chance each roll over.

Major Injury. Minus 10% to players attributes and skills. Decreases energy and maximum energy by 15. Increases the chance for higher injury. Heals at a 1/3 Stamina % chance each roll over.

Injury Checks would be triggered by each tackle, block and turn of more than 5? degrees.

The Base Chance of Injury would be based upon the strength of the tackle, the combined power of the block (speed and weight of blocker and blocking at moment of engaging the block) or the energy of the turn (combination of speed and degrees being turned).

The Base Chance would be modified by the dot's attributes, skills and tactical settings as follows.

Things that would lower your dot's chance for injury -
Receiving a lower power tackle, lower speed at time of injury check, higher agility, Higher Stamina, Higher Vision, Playing on lower energy settings (ie normal and light though make it a slider with more increments), Brace For Impact SA, Distance Runner, Technique Man, Balance, Slow Starter, Second Wind, Streaky VAs, and quality of teams physical training staff.

Things that would increase your dot's chance of injury
Having a Pre-Injury, Receiving a high power Tackle, higher speed at time of injury, lower agility, Lower Stamina, Lower Vision, Playing on High Energy Settings (Hard, but have a slider with more increments), Monster Hit@, Big Hit@, Big Sack@, Quick Cut, Cut Block@, Head Hunter@, Jack Hammer@ SAs, Brick Wall*, Stone Wall*, Power Tackler*, Bruiser*, Tenacious, Mr First Down, Adrenalin Junkie VAs.

*These could arguably be the opposite, but I was thinking that things that meant the player was fighting the tackle or block harder would increase the chance of being injured.

@ Giving or receiving a hit or block that triggers one of these SAs would increase the chance of injury for both the tackler and tacklee or defender and blocker for cut block.

HEALING

As noted in the injury types, the base % chance of healing is based on stamina and the injury level and is checked for at roll over. This can be further modified as follows.

Chance is decreased by 3/2/1% for each play played that day on Hard/Normal or Light tactical settings (can have this on a slider with more increments).

Chance is increased by the quality of the Team Rehab facility.

Chance is increased by .5% for each level of Leader SA, Natural Leader, Big Heart, and Heart of Champion VAs.

TEAM PHYISCAL TRAINING AND REHAB FACILITIES

Added to the Stadium and Promotions would be a Physical Training tab and a Rehab Tab. Teams would spend money each season to have a PT or Rehab facility, how much being spent determining how helpful the facility is.

PT would decrease the chance of being injured. They could also give bonuses if that was desired (increase team stamina, say).

Rehab would increase the chance of injuries healing.

+1 to the creation of Ironman and Superhero leagues as long as the players made for them can't be moved to regular leagues.
