Not sure if this has been suggested or not, but I think a GLB draft would a good thing for the game.
7 rounds - all active GLB players would have an option to enlist themselves in the appropriate age bracket. IE rookie league drafts would yield to rookie age players. The top 2 teams in each conference (not league) would not be allowed to participate in the draft, any changes made to their roster would have be through the market. All drafts would be automated.
Drafts would be held on day 47
Teams would be given a list of all players who have enlisted themselves to be drafted. Players would only be allowed to enlist day 35 through day 40. Teams would then be given a list of players available to be drafted on day 41. . Teams would then rank positions of need first. IE If WR was the biggest team need, there would be a 1 placed next to the corresponding position. Teams then would be given the option to select the most desired archetype for each individual position.
IE If a pass-rushing DE were the most desired, it would be selected, there would be no ranking or order. The draft would then select the players for the team based on ranking of most desired positions and archetypes. Players with the highest overall effective level would be drafted first. IE If two WRs were up for grabs, WR A is level 16 with an overall effective level of 18, and WR B is level 16 with an overall effective level of 17, WR A would be selected first - regardless of archetype.
4 teams in each league would be unable to participate. These would be the top teams, and thus teams that would fair better overall in recruiting without the aid of a draft. IMHO, this would help to even the score. And, it would be optional for players, thus if a player were drafted, he may end up playing for a better or worse team than the previous season. Also, this I believe would add life to the glb forums and aid agents in networking with other agents.
I'm sure this will be hated. But what the hell, here goes nothing. (clicks post)
