Week 8 had several big games in the East. The Concord Skyhawks now have a new owner, so we'll see if the gutting comes to an end. Everything wen't as expected in the West as we reached the halfway point in the season.

West:

EZ (8-0) vs. Laurier (2-6): 46-3. EZ rolled again this week with an easy win over Laurier. The EZ QB duo of Bobby "Too Cool" Light and Boomer Baker combined for 280.5 yards and 3 TDs, while Laurier struggled on the ground and only managed 105.5 yards in the air. Boots Baker was perfect kicking, including a 56 yarder just before halftime. Smash Weas dominated on defense for EZ with 2 tackles, 8 deflections, and 2 INTs. Next: EZ- Colorado (1-7), Laurier- Fresno (6-2).

Las Vegas (8-0) vs. Texas (4-4): 29-13. Las Vegas remained undefeated in a game closer than the score indicated against the Texas Teabaggers. QB Todd Marinovich 12 was effecient in completing 17/27 passes for 158.5 yards and 2 TDs. Texas QB Dan Pastorini also had a decent effort with 189.5 yards, but his 1 INT and under 50% completion percentage was not enough to get the job done. Sebastian Janikowski .20 was perfect kicking including 3 FGs of over 50 yards. Next: Las Vegas- Lauderdale (3-5), Texas- Concord (1-7).

Minnesota (7-1) vs. Concord (1-7): 121-0. Possibly the last game for the Concord Skyhawks was another blowout. Their embarassing run comes to an end as the team was sold to slappypappy after this loss. However, slappy appears to be none to happy about getting a team in such bad shape, and might look to unload the team to another owner this year. Gunner Mick was able to complete 15 passes including 4 TDs, and Scrambled Eggs ran for 253 yards and an impressive 7 TDs on 21 carries. Next: Minnesota- New Jersey (5-3), Concord- Texas (4-4).

Tallahassee (6-2) vs. Tijauana (2-6): 23-13. Tijuana's struggles continued as they were unable to catch up to the early lead that Tallahassee rang up. Fumbles plagued the Gutter Bass, as they had 7 including 4 by Cackamole JR, on only 6 rushes and 4 kick returns. One of the fumbles was on a kickoff, which was returned by the kicking team for a TD, which allowed Tallahassee to get off to a quick 14-0 start. Someone might want to give him some velcro gloves for next game! The Tigers also had struggles with turnovers, who had 4 fumbles (2 lost), and an INT. Next: Tallahassee- Goshen (0-8), Tijuana- Oakland (1-7).

Fresno (6-2) vs. Oakland (1-7): 86-0. Fresno dominated the outmatched Turtles, holding them to -29.5 yards rushing and only 111.5 yards in the air. Fresno exploded for 495 yards on offense, including 287 on the ground. Sonny Bill Williams led the way with 197.5 yards and 5 TDs. In a sequence eerily similar to the Tallahassee-Tijuana game, Fresno scored a touchdown and on the following kickoff, Oakland fumbled the return, which was then returned by Fresno for a quick 14 points in a 6 second span. Next: Fresno- Laurier (2-6), Oakland - Tijuana (2-6).

SNK (5-3) vs. Goshen (0-8): 63-3. Goshen scored its first points in franchise history, but were unable to compete with the Crushers. SNK jumped out to a 34-0 lead in the first half. SNK put up 337 yards rushing to Goshen's -25.5. A bright spot for Goshen was QB patriot killer, who completed 25/50 passes for 142.5 yards. 6 players scored SNK's 7 touchdowns in a balanced effort. Goshen's rebuilding effort is fully underway- don't expect KAPLAN to mimic the Gutter Hawks. Next: SNK- San Francisco (5-3), Goshen- Tallahassee (6-2).

New Jersey (5-3) vs. Colorado (1-7): 25-0. New Jersey dominated this game start to finish, getting their 3rd shutout this season. Most of the damage was done on the ground as Jack Riley and Adrian Walker each got over the 100 yard mark. MR Michaels of New Jersey had an amazing 7 tackles for loss (and only 1 for any gain- a 1 yard rush). Colorado was able to slow New Jersey down forcing 4 FGs in the game, including a goal line stance in the 4th quarter, preventing the Nighthawks from getting into the end zone from the 4 yard line on 4 plays. Next: New Jersey- Minnesota (7-1), Colorado- EZ (8-0).

San Francisco (5-3) vs. Lauderdale (3-5): 19-6. San Francisco has been one of the biggest surprises this season, and looks to take this season to the playoffs with another strong game against the Titans. The game started out slow, as the Gold Rush lead 3-0 at the half, but jumped out to a lead off of a 57 yard touchdown pass to A J Johnson. Johnson had 10 receptions for 160 yards as well. The Gold Rush ground game was also string with Barry Saunders rushing for 82.5 yards on 20 carries. He was helped by OT Mark Mato, who had 25 pancakes on 69 plays. Lauderdale was able to make a comeback in the 3rd Quarter, but was held to FGs, and San Francisco kicker Andits Good kept the lead protected with 4 2nd half FGs. Next: San Francisco- SNK (5-3), Lauderdale- Las Vegas (8-0).

East:

Crimson (8-0) vs. Naperville (5-3): 34-19. The game of the week was as advertised as the special teams made the difference for Crimson. Naperville had a few key stops of Crimson early, holding them to two field goals with a sack on 3rd down on each of the first two drives. Turnovers plagued the teams early, as there were 5 turnovers in the first quarter. Naperville struck back, but Crimson's defense prevented the go-ahead touchdown early in the 2nd quarter. Naperville tied the game with a 53 yard field goal late in the 2nd quarter. Naperville drove down to the Crimson .5 yard line to start the 2nd half, but was held to a field goal again by Crimson's top defense. This defensive stance changed the game, as Crimson's Kat McScat then returned the kickoff 85.5 yards for a touchdown to regain the lead 13-9. Demoralized, Naperville continued to make mistakes. An interception on Naperville's next posession lead to an easy TD at the start of the 4th quarter. After a few 3 and out stops, Crimson's Mumbles McGrouch returned a punt 68 yards for a touchdown and never looked back. Naperville's two extra turnovers and Crimson's special team brilliance proved to be too much as Crimson continued its undefeated season. Next: Crimson- Detroit (1-7), Naperville- Red River (0-8).

Columbus (7-1) vs. New Orleans (4-4): 37-10. Columbus rebounded from its first loss with a 37-10 drubbing of New Orleans. Columbus's defense once again proved itself by holding Indianapolis to 99.5 yards of offense. Columbus opened the game up with a touchdown from Brett Lindberg to Tiberius Cyclonus. Columbus's offense stalled, unable to reach the end zone the rest of the game and throwing 3 INTs and 1 fumble. However, the Columbus Defense pestered QB Ryan Hollister, who threw 8 INTs and only completed 21/55 passes for 92.5 yards. Little Zing added to the punishment with 2 sacks, a forced fumble, a hurry, and 4 tackles. The Animal Laurinitis also had a monster game with 4 tackles for loss. Kick DaBrick was 8/8, and K. R. Wilson returned a punt for a TD early in the 3rd quarter to put the game out of reach. Next: Columbus- New York Mustangs (3-5), New Orleans- Maine (4-4).

New York Launch (6-2) vs. Indianapolis (5-3): 22-16. New York prevailed in a toughly fought game that could make the difference in who gets a home game in the playoffs. The two teams traded field goals early, when New York first reached the end zone on a pass from Christian Alexander to Fontaine Bojangles in the 2nd quarter. New York took a 22-9 lead late into the 4th quarter, but Indianapolis fought back. The Rush took the ball 55 yards in 2 minutes to close the gap to 22-16 with 2:16 to go. Their defense put up a crucial 3 and out stop, which gave them a chance to get to the end zone. A beautiful punt by TJ Lynch pinned Indy down at their own 1.5 yard line. Zach Emerson led his team down the field, but the Launch was able to stop the drive and seal the victory. Both QBs, Zach Emerson and Christian Alexander, had 200 yard passing days with a lone touchdown each. Neither team had any turnovers in solid play. Next: New York Launch- Milwaukee (5-3), Indianapolis- Pittsburgh (4-4).

St. Louis (6-2) vs. Maine (4-4): 17-13. Maine suffered its latest heartbreaking defeat of the year in a tough loss to St. Louis. St. Louis jumped to an early 7-0 lead, but Maine fought back with 2 field goals. St. Louis then scored on a 45.5 TD pass from Kevin Walisch to Mr. Three Percent early in the 3rd quarter. When all hope looked lost for Maine, they recovered with a TD drive of their own to bring the game to 14-13 early in the 4th quarter. St. Louis drove down to the 4 yard line, where Maine held them to a field goal, giving them a chance at a final drive. Maine drove 59 yards, but ended inches short on a 4th and inches play for the game. Blade Icewood made the gamesaving tackle just short of the goal line. Maine QB Gus Jonsson barely missed open TE Drago Shimanov, as it was deflected by Gizmo Tatupu. Maine's 4 losses have been by a combined `11 points. With games still left against Naperville, Crimson, and SNK, Maine will struggle to make the playoffs. However, they may be one of the toughest teams to face for a top seed that draws them. St. Louis continues to keep critics silenced with their wins. Next: St. Louis- Cleveland (1-7), Maine- New Orleans (4-4).

Milwaukee (5-3) vs. Detroit (1-7): 64-0. Milwaukee showed its offensive and defensive dominance with a 64-0 smackdown of the Detroit MOb. Milwaukee QB Billy Montana was 32/48 with 240 yards and 1 TD in his effort, while Detroit's Chuck Patterson struggled, completing only 17/47 passes for 80 yards and 6 INTs. Milwaukee's Travis Jervey ran for 94 yards on 19 carries with 2 TDs. FB Johnny McNally rushed just 13.5 yards, but scored 3 TDs in his 6 carries. Detroit was held to just 73 yards offense in the game. Milwaukee may have 3 losses, but they might be the scariest team not named Crimson in the East. Next: Milwaukee- New York Launch (6-2), Detroit- Crimson (8-0).

Pittsburgh (4-4) vs. Cleveland (1-7): 41-13. Pittsburgh jumped out to an early lead and didn't look back as they moved back to .500 in a win over rival Cleveland. Pittsburgh QB Angry Dad passed for 282 yards completing 25/45 attempts for 4 TDs. Although Cleveland struggled, it did have a positive play from Dan The MAn, who scored on a 78.5 yard TD pass from Todd Beakman and had 130 yards on 8 receptions. Pittsburgh's Matthew Shanley also had 129 yards on 8 receptions and a touchdown. His day might have been even better if he had not had 3 dropped passes. Next: Pittsburgh- Indianapolis (5-3), Cleveland- St. Louis (6-2).

Sin City (3-5) vs. New York Mustangs (3-5): 41-6. Sin City scored on 4 touchdowns in the first half and never looked abck as it dominated New York 41-6. New York was able to stop Sin City from reaching the end zone once in the 3rd quarter, but otherwise struggled to slow down the passing attack of the dual threat of B left and The Arm. B left completed 22/24 passes for 182.5 yards and 4 touchdowns, including a 57 yard pass to James LazyEye early in the 4th quarter. New York QB Ace Motley struggled as he completed just 45% of his passes and threw 3 INTs. Next: Sin City- Martha's Vineyard (2-6), New York- Columbus (7-1).

Martha's Vineyard (2-6) vs. Red River (0-8): 24-7. Martha's Vineyard doubled their win total from last year with a win over Red River in which they were outgained in yards 415.5 to 357.5. The first quarter was a defensive struggle that ended when Red River drove from their own 1.5 yard line all the way to the 5.5. However, Randolph Cheese missed the 22.5 yard field goal. Red River made another drive to score, but was intercepted by sean speed of Martha's Vineyard. They ended their two play drive with a 77.5 yard TD pass from Love Doctor to Pimp Dog Rogers. The Ballbusters never looked back holding Red River to a single touchdown. Martha's Vineyard had two 100 yard receivers- Pimp DOg Rogers and Josh Callahan. Red River's offense also struggled as Nate Hybl threw 2 INTs in the game. Next: Martha's Vineyard- Sin City(3-5), Red River- Naperville (5-3).

Top Games of Week 9:

Minnesota vs. New Jersey
New Jersey may have gotten relegated last season, but they certainly are no pushover. They look to put up a strong performance against the Fire, who have only lost to undefeated Las Vegas.

SNK vs. San Francisco
SNK and San Francisco have both been 2 of the most surprising teams in the West, but for oppsite reasons. San Francisco can prove themselves as a real contender with a win over SNK. SNK has 3 losses, but only by teams who have a combined 2 losses.

New York Launch vs. Milwaukee
New York and Milwaukee are battling for a potential home playoff game that could come down to this game. Both teams have lost to Crimson and Columbus, while the Launch's win over Maine is the only difference in the two teams. Look for an even match from two teams hungry to reach the playoffs.
