I agree with the OP's title "Voting on suggestion forums more important than on Trash Talking" Which is why the "karma system" should never be implemented here.
Even adding a simple +1/-1 or thumb up/down here wouldn't help things. People on the internet, this site included, can't use things that affect others anonymously without turning it into a joke or popularity contest or a way to attack others.
The system we have now isn't perfect, but it's ok. Locking out suggestions because a user isn't popular isn't the way to go. As long as they can act in a responsible manner anyways.
If it's just used as a tally system, or merged with the voting (ie once something is sent up to vote, allow people to vote directly from the post, not having to go to the voting system) i'd go with that.

thumps up on suggestion forums instead of on trash talking threads. +1 for this idea though
Dont tell me why this would be stupid tell me why it hasnt happened yet.
I think I misunderstood what you were getting at, but I'm still leary about it.
Originally posted by hatchman why can't the voting just be for the simple purpose of a thumbs up you agree witht he suggestion and thumbs down you disagree. it doesn't have to be just like the stuff in FFA. it could be a very useful tool if used correctly. and I do not think it would be something that would necessarily have to work the same way it does in FFA. just cut the locking of the thread out and use it for the pure purpose of agreeing or disagreeing with a suggestion.
Simple in theory hatch, but then you are leaving it up to people to be civil and actually vote on merit. Most of the knuckleheads don't care enough to go to the suggestions voting "forum", but if it was just left open here, I think it's likely that some good suggestions might be voted down for no good reason. Maybe it already happens and my point is moot.

A lot of times i think suggestions get turned down because a user isnt popular or just hated. What about adding this along with anonymous posting for the OP only. If the owner of the thread decides to come out and say they made the thread from that point then he'd be taking a chance on a failed idea.
This should be a no-brainer for the suggestions forum. Suggestions should not be locked because of voting, but it is a great way to get an idea of how popular a suggestion is.

Yeah, I don't think that threads should be auto-locked but this would help with threads where you have one or two users just spamming a suggestion where everyone else pretty much hates the idea. Sometimes those threads get up to 10 pages long mostly because the original poster just keeps responding to everyone who -1s the idea. This would at least show that the majority of people think it is a bad idea despite the multiple bumps.
