I keep seeing the same questions over and over again in the Q&A threads.
To me, there are two problems:
1. There are too many nuances to each ability to summarize them with a brief description on the tooltip.
2. It's not easy enough to find answers that are already out there.
This suggestion addresses #2.
Part 1, finding the existing content
Sure, the die-hards are going to follow every Q&A, and the veterans are going to know that they can search the Q/A wiki. But it's not as visible as it should be. Here is one of the first questions in the recent Q&A thread: "Does Red Zone Freak turn on once a player runs inside the 20 despite the ball being snapped on say the 50." The answer (that it's based on the line of scrimmage) is pretty common knowledge, and can even be found if you search the Q&A archives. So how can we make this info easier for users to find?
With the VAs/SAs close to finalized and the game close to out of Beta, this is how I think it should work:
1. Keep the Q&A search, that is useful
2. Add tags to the Q&A answers so that special abilities or veteran abilities are specifically marked (not just text searches)
3. Make the SAs and VAs clickable on player.pl and skill_points.pl so that you can be linked to the answers marked for that ability
Part 2, adding to the existing content
The Q&A threads and archive have done a good job of providing answers which can be found by those who know where to look, but the process could be sped up. The Q/A wiki does not really have as much info as it ought to.
For example, the last question asked in the recent Q&A: "Does Zone Focus work against the run? If so what is the cut-off point." Those of us that remember Zone Specialist VA know that ZS and now ZF worked by providing a bonus in zone until the defender reads run or sees the pass thrown. And yet this info is not in the wiki.
So here's the last part of my suggestion:
4. Add a form so people can submit info that should be added/marked. Bort/Catch review the submissions when they get a chance and add them if appropriate. Users that abuse this system with false info get flagged and can no longer submit them.
This would more quickly get specific answers into the database. If someone knows hte answer to a question, they aren't going to ask it on the Q&A thread and it might not get into the archive. But if they search high and low for an answer and then find it, they might be motivated enough to submit it so that next time others can find it right away.
