some names are way too common for this to happen

How is a player going to become noteworthy if he's not even on a roster? Most people only sign one season contracts...three seasons is the max.

I was referring to: Suppose one of my players became noteworthy (I have a couple of "almost" cases, one who won a league MVP and one who got a significant number of votes for the Africa Pro League Hall of Fame, though not enough to make it), then the agent does what I did and was gone for a couple of years...and returns to find them gone? Suppose they weren't "almost" cases, but actual clearly noteworthy cases?

I don't think anyone wants to close inactive accounts. Just be able to clear their players names and/or their user name. And only after long periods of inactivity.

I can't see how it would hurt to clear out names for long inactives, they would still come back to all of their flex and a system could be put in place for them to easily rename all of their dots and enter in a new user name.

If you want to prevent your dots from being renamed and/or keep your user name it is pretty easy to log in once a year.

Okay, that's good enough then, as long as it becomes widely known that if you've gone over a year without logging in at all and as long as people come back to all of their flex and an easy system to rename their dots even if they don't. I was trying to defend someone who in the future does what I did in the past. If this was in place and I knew it, I would have made a point to log in every several months while I was gone to keep my names; and even if I didn't, my flex would have been there and my players to retire for more flex (without their names) would also have been there.

If all that is done, I'm okay with this idea.

I don't like it when player names and account names are changed. It's good for history to have them remain the same. If someone really doesn't like their own name I don't mind that there is a process in place for them to get it changed. But I don't like the idea of automatically changing the name of accounts or players.

I don't believe this game should cater to people that go inactive for a year, two years, three years, four years... and might come back. I believe this game should cater to the people that actually can frickin' log on at a regular basis.

These are the kind of accounts I'm talking about:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/home.pl?user_id=279842
http://goallineblitz.com/game/home.pl?user_id=8688
http://goallineblitz.com/game/home.pl?user_id=291700
http://goallineblitz.com/game/home.pl?user_id=419230

That was just a random sampling of accounts from one page after I searched the name "Bob". I didn't even look at 1/4 the links on that page.

They should wipe the name after a set amount of time and then give the player a generic name that can be changed if they were to ever come back.

I think ideally everyone should know that if they do something noteworthy (even noteworthy just to them) that it can live on in this game forever after they leave. To the extent you were talking about accounts someone logs into and then never logs back into and the like, freeing up names is fine; but there is a difference with someone who was actually active for a fair amount of time.

All of us will eventually leave, and hopefully the game will go on for decades; and hopefully all of us can be afforded that respect if so. I really have much more respect for games that preserve their history.

I can easily live with it though, as I said, if I knew that all I had to do to preserve my account was to log in at least once a year.

wow, signing up as their last action is a little suspicious. signing up and doesnt even give the game a try

That definitely makes this seem reasonable

There are a ton of them. I would guess that at least 95% of them were just multis created for referral flex.

It's my understanding (and I could be wrong) that the requirement for new users to remain active a few days after they sign up for the person that referred them to get the flex was because this was being abused so badly.

If you make it 1 year of inactivity. The same should go for usernames of the banned or accounts that are more than a year old and were not active for at least 30 days. Too many names have been used by people that logged in one time 4 years ago and never returned.

The Ban idea... NGTH... Then the name gets deleted and the banned comes back with the same name... Tell me how that is helpful?

Yes but then it becomes a fun scavenger hunt to keep the mods and admin busy.

Bort and Catch have said that this will never happen.

While I agree that after a certain time of inactivity, there is no reason to keep it, doesn't really matter what I think
