This formation should be available in game. There are many plays I would like to create from this formation, please add it, thank you. Sure it is not widely used in the NFL, but the Jets use it now, and the Ravens did as well, when Rex Ryan was there. It gave Ed Reed a lot more freedom. It's perfect against teams that like to run the ball. It should be available.

You can already do this with the DPC. Just take any 4-3 play move your SS down into the box and your FS to the center of the field over the top. Can then do all sorts of different shifts with the D-line and LBs to give different looks.

A caveat is that it is less effective in dotball than in real football because overload blitzes don't work particularly well.

@ merenoise, every time I try to move players, their assignment reverts to something else(instead of what I initially set it as. I'm afraid it's not working. Plus if I wanted to create a number of plays from this I would have to set their positioning each time. It should already be a basic formation.

edit: I finally got it to work! Whew. Too bad we couldn't create formations! =)

I love the custom defensive thing. I use it all the time...and I have a casual team! It's just fun to make plays

exactly. It's the best. I know they don't have custom formations because people may exploit the AI, like many do in Madden pe-snap, but still, at least have all viable formations in the game, I don't think that's asking too much.

can't do a 46.

the object of the 46 was to use the big body lineman to negate the strong side advantage. you can't get both the DT and NT on the strong side. Then, the RDE takes on the LG with an outside shade which is also impossible. Then use 2 OLBs on the weak side to attack the lone LT. It was a great defense when TEs were just blocking. TEs that could catch made the defense obsolete.

you could simulate the 46 a bunch of ways but you can't get the linemen shifted far enough do do it "by the book".

The best approach would probably be to use the 4-4 to start. Balanced on the D-line and a strong shift with the LBs.
Make a HH LOLB to use as the strong side LDE role. The real LDE would be a run stuffer, playing the NT role. The NT then takes the DT role, and the DT then takes the RDE role. The RDE would be a pass rusher as light as possible, then you'd bring the ROLB shallow to attack the LT also. Build the RILB as the traditional Mike, and build the LILB like the safety in the box.

I wouldn't try doing it in a game that counts tho...

a better idea would be the big nickel, with an extra SS instead of CB.

yup, too bad offensive coordinators want all their cut backs, draws, and a gazillion more plays but the defensive coordinators got screwed with the DAI nerf.
