Oceania Pro League Week 6 Write-Up
Balanced Game of the Week
Florida BeachDogz @ Gold Coast Michelin Men
I'm basing the balance in this game soley off of the records each team has, Florida has not beat anyone who packs any sort of real punch, to include Brantford. Having said that, GCMM has also stumbled their way into a 'mid-grade' season thus far. Florida would NEED to use this week as a proving ground, all evidence to this point says they are complete frauds but then again, they've not been claiming to be contenders either. I'd be surprised if GC didn't win this one, but for sake of arguement, Florida could shock people.
Upset Watch Game of the Week
Tampa Bay Puganeers @ Brantford Promnight Dumpster Babies
Neither of these teams will be championship contenders in OPL this season and neither has proven anything beyond the fact they're both frauds. Having said that Tampa Bay is the clear cut favorite in this game and that's exactly why I think they're going to lose. Tampa Bay has a long history of not proving anything to anyone, this week will be no different. Having done this write-up prior to week 5 results, it's fair to say this could be Brantfords first win of the season.
Irrelevant Game of the Week
Prague Panthers @ Razorback Nation
You may both take this opportunity to prove me wrong, but after Prague lost to both GCV and Sumatra by a landslide, they proved nothing more to me than the fact they are complete frauds. These two teams may just be fighting to see who loses by more points in the first round of the playoffs...if they even make the playoffs. RN has faced 1 team that matters and they were embarrassed. Prague faced 2 teams that mattered and not only were they embarrassed they were laughed out of the stadium the second time around. If there's anything to prove in this game, it's that your teams are capable of scoring points. For the love of God do not let this game end 0-0 in triple overtime.
Blowout Watch Game of the Week
The GlobeDotters: Indianapolis Gurupies @ Easter Island Moai
After their loss to SCV, EIM has me really scratching my head and wondering if they can contend with top tier teams in Alpha. I think I might already know the answer. I understand Indy only played one meaningful game (techically 2 but the results of week 5 were not available when this write-up got posted) and Deadwood played them close but the fact is, Indy has done everything they've needed to. This game is going to be ugly. Indy is definitely a contender, I don't think EIM is...this game will prove it one way or another.
Oceania Pro Alpha Conference Tostito-Goal Game of the Week
SWAT City Vigilantes @ Banzai Pipeline 'Nites
No, perhaps these are not the teams that are going to win the OPL Championship Trophy but..perhaps they are. Just because Buda, Indy, Sumatra, and GCV are the most likely to win it, doesn't mean that it's guaranteed. Both of these teams have earned my respect. SCV has had 3 meaningful games and won 2 of them. Banzai has had 1 meaningful game and they lost. But it was to Buda and it was a 4 point game. C'mon, I just told you Buda was a favorite, so 4 points is freakin' fantastic for a loss to them. No one is questioning whether or not these teams should be taken seriously or whether or not they are for real. They are definitely for real. Perhaps the only thing people are questioning is whether either team is good enough to win a championship this season. Well, it's time for you to make a statement. That statement doesn't have to be "we are good enough to win a championship" but it does at least need to be "we can compete with good teams consistently" if you are capable of making a bigger statement than that, I challenge you to do so.
Oceania Pro Zeta PowerZone Game of the Week
Amsterdam Bulls @ Sumatra Seahawks
After a close loss to GCV Amsterdam NEEDS to rebound against Sumatra. Considering they could be one of the top contenders in Zeta, a conference really struggling to produce contenders at all, every game counts and Amsterdam has already cost themselves a seeding likely to GCV. Sumatra hasn't proven jack yet this season. Everyone is STILL waiting to find out if they can live up to the hype of being the 'team to beat' in Zeta. Sorry SS but there isn't one team you have beaten so far that means anything in OPL. Amsterdam is the first test Sumatra will face and...if by chance Amsterdam wins, the week 7 write-ups don't bode well for Sumatra.
