Because of his quote about being paid to defend passes not make tackles, TONS of people assume he was a piss poor tackler, which was not the case.
Most people don't consider him to be a piss poor tackler. But anyone who watched him play, has to admit he was a bit soft when it came to making the tackle. While he might have been techically good at making tackles, he often shied away from big hits.
