I don't even think it adds a single click.

I'd guess that because the QB scans the field faster, he might be more likely to make a mistake about who's open? It would be tough to balance that without making it unusable, but also without making it easily the best option...although if it could be done and kept balanced, it would be a good idea.

I don't want to hijack DTRAIN's intentions here but the tradeoff is multi-faceted if you did take the open man approach.

Since the purpose of it would be to rely on your QB to make those reads...not your OC...there is a tradeoff in how you build your QB. So for example, you could build your QB with very high Vision, & give him the corresponding SA/VAs to be capable of reading plays himself. So a great QB build in this direction could in fact make an average OC look good (but perhaps not make all the throws as in the below example).

Or...you could build a passing machine of a QB, or even a scrambler-type QB...who is optimized physically (i.e. strength, throwing, & a few other physical attributes). Then you can spoon-feed the QB the progressions because he won't make the right reads himself. Advanced OCs could use this method as a real advantage & way to separate themselves from the pack.

I would think this would also make lower levels need to set progressions for QBs before they begin to round out, even if they are a high vision "quick read QB". Naturally, the talent pool on defense & DCs is also lower so there is more room for error.

I believe he means that once the progression hits the "open man" option, the QB would scan the field as he does when no custom progression is selected in order to find someone that is open to throw to. Not that he would "know" who was open already and automatically throw to them.

Maybe a compromise to that would be selecting sections of the field in the progression. Have the drop down have a "left side of field", "middle of field", and "right side of field" selection so the QB can just scan a section of the field to find an open receiver instead of looking directly at each receiver (and avoiding the QB doing that crazy seizure progression where he looks at the far left receiver then far right receiver with no delay).

very good explanation by Anarcho, except i use the word "blank" or "any" instead of "open man" so that it does not confuse anyone.

Maybe GLB can discuss this suggestion in their meetings for offseason plans.

but for the meantime this seems to have earned enough interests to be sent to the vote system. "just sayin"

+1 to the OP and concept in general. Give some further refinement to the defense also to keep things even....ish.
Maybe expand on def. pass coverage options/detail in player tactics.....
Do something about coverage "overshoot".... allow "press coverage" options.......?

This work in the game sim is where the $ is at Bort....... at least mine anyway.

Can't remember if I plus 1'd this one but I do. +1.

This could create some issues when teams use a blocking TE in routes to throw off tagging...that might be enough trade off for the defensive side to make this interesting.

Maybe on the programming side but on the user side its not that bad.

And really it wouldn't be bad at all with some decent documentation.

Can't you guys get some English major from a local college to intern for you and put together a manual??????

Heck a high school kid. Anything at all would be a vast improvement.
