For the life of me, I can't figure out why the OPL reps flop in WL except for the two mainstays, obviously.

Agree. But one of the problems is that FAs that want WL teams and want to settle early will take a team that is already in the WL and will be staying there. By the time Pro teams find out they are moving up (day 38), many FAs are already in place on WL teams. Makes it harder to get the very best talent needed to stick.

If this is true (and I don't doubt that it is), we will probably not stick when we get there. I have no desire to gut my team just b/c we changed leagues. I just hope that the talent we have in our farm system is good enough that I will just be trading out the old for the new (same basic core of agents tho), where the new were built using better strategies and thus might be better able to stick in the WL.

There are worse things then playing in the same league for many seasons. This is as close to the "old school" as I have seen since they implemented the minors and the cloud back in Season 10.

Very noble, but if you're not willing to improve your team, there will be issues.

We've been fortunate enough to have great builds and willing to upgrade as needed. Agents have been more than willing to step aside in order to improve the team. That's the great thing about having core agents like that. But even guys we have picked up along the way have come back to us with other players on lower teams to try and get back up to Indy. Loyalty is a two way street and as long as you are fair and forthright to people, most understand.

My suggestion is try and get commitments for guys who will join you if you make WL.

Precisely this

All the best FAs are WL or bust, so it's impossible to get over the hump without either homegrown dots or being part of a network.

It's kinda unfair, but a majority of WL teams have networks and stuff so nothing will change.

Different strokes for different folks. If this were a job where winning at WL affected my life, I might care about those issues. Since it is a game and thus meant for fun, there will be no issues. We may lose a ton and demote back to OPL, but that is not an issue to me. We will have fun and then bring up our second group and try again. If we succeed, we can take pride in the fact we did it without a network of teams to pull players from and without changing out our roster wholesale. If we fail, we can take pride that we played the game our way and enjoyed it. Either way, is fine by me.

my $0.02.....I wouldn't try to upgrade every position the first season you got to the WL and I think that is a big mistake that lots of teams make. Part of the reason I think BDC has stayed successful is that we recruit from within and we recruit early. We had 90% of our S20 recruiting class finalized before day 40 in S18 and the day we get eliminated from the playoffs this season the S21 recruiting thread goes up. I'll try to get current agents to fill as many spots as possible and we will turn over between 15-20 dots per season for as many more seasons as we decide to keep playing. If we have a good dot that might be a little young we might promote early, even if it is just to play special teams.

We had a casual team that will wind up producing about 5 dots for us and we have some great loyal agents that have brought in waves of dots, but we don't have a network like many do and we typically have one of the lower SP Values in the WL. We play to stay in the WL though and we'll adjust to what the sim offers quicker than a lot of teams.

I do think the next wave of OPL teams has a great chance to stick - I thought we'd get another team to stay in the last couple of seasons actually. Just concentrate on surviving and don't forget that you don't have to beat a single playoff team to stay - you just have to beat the non-playoff teams.

Good luck in the playoffs guys.

The problem is that so many teams "blow their wads" trying to reach WL. Like jdros, we try and think a season ahead. Try and not sign players who are only going to stay one season and best of all, we have a lot of loyal agents who know how to build great dots. This sim doens't really fit us at all, but we saw pretty quickly that we'd still be able to compete and put it on auto-pilot early. Not sure what it is about the 1 vs 8 seeds--but we wanted nothing to do with the #1 seed this season.

Dots and planners/coords need to be up to the task to make it in WL and hope the sim doesn't go against how you are set up.
