Catch22 asked that the questions i asked him over PM be asked here for fairness to everyone. I can appreciate that so here it is.

So here is what i asked regarding Ernest Hemingway his true dual threat QB in World League playing for So Cal. http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=1153642

Glad you opened the build man as i have a player that i started in season 14 with that idea in mind. I was beginning to worry that he was a wasted dot and that he'd need retired.

Looking at your dot he is pretty much exactly what i hoped to do BUT as you probably noticed its pretty much impossible to be a dominant rushing QB with spin, juke, etc while being a dominant passing QB as well.

IF you had it to do over again do you think the smart thing to do would be to go more extreme on throwing and vision like i did with my dot and let go of the idea that he will ever run the ball at a very high level and by doing so gear him to be a better passing QB?

What do you think about demoralize, dump pass and on the run instead of taking agility as extreme and in place of juke/spin?

How do you feel strength helps your build being that the majority of his throws are short routes?

Has low confidence ever been a factor that you've noticed?

How well is that 10 punting working for ya?

ATM i don't know which way to go with him and i'm nearing the crucial point in his build where i really need to decide. Any advice would be much appreciated.

OH i better ask this too. Perhaps we can get a good answer for it.

Catch22, do you feel that with the speed of Ernest Hemingway that it has helped him avoid making as many bad passes by avoiding "hurried pressure"?

No, speed will not help you avoid pressure and can actually be a hindrance because you're throwing on the move more often, which is what makes Catch's investment in the "On the Run" SA so important. A QB without that will throw a lot of bad passes while moving.

I've done a fair amount of experimenting with this. I haven't quite stumbled on the right formula but I feel like I'm on track. I think it actually might make more sense to use the Deep Passer archetype, although I have a Scrambler I'm building myself--here's the build I came up with using the Deep Passer. Once you get past the line of scrim, the superior strength gains really help, imo, and you can still get agility decently high.

Obviously you're gonna have to roll for a couple of things and hope you get pretty lucky. I think in general you'd want to buy the Spin/Break Tackle since I don't know how often a QB gets those things.

This is a very important point for those of you considering having a running QB who is a viable passing option.

I would have definitely worked on his throwing skills a bit more earlier on in his development. The biggest impact a running QB has is the "threat" he brings. By forcing defenses to account for that threat, you open up other areas of the offense. Honestly, I don't expect running QB's to get a lot of rushes at higher levels because teams spend too much time making sure that doesn't happen.

The latter two are very important. I'm not sold on demoralize as I haven't spent a lot of time studying it. Just figured if I was going to have this type of QB and it's the last skill in the tree that I should at least invest some points in it to see if it had an impact. I suppose I could go through and look at how it affects the morale of opposing defenders but then I'd have to compile reports and let everyone know so I'll just leave it a mystery for now - I'm not sure a running QB runs enough at higher levels to justify a lot of points in Spin/Juke but that was the route I took with Hemingway (I was designing him for a team I was running but had to disband the team when I became an Admin)

Strength's main role for Hemingway was for break tackle/spin roles. That and it doesn't hurt for times where he throws a non-short route

Not really because of the role he has played on most teams

I wasn't one of those people who spent 10 hours trying to get the perfect roll. Needless to say, I love that we can control that now.

Main advice I would give is don't be afraid to experiment. Every one thinks that there is one "set" way to build a player and be successful. I can assure you that's not true.

I love to experiment with new builds, unfortunately it just takes too long and costs too much to keep them going for more than 2-4 seasons.

It's a little easier to blow 100 bucks on a nonfunctional QB when you don't have to pay for it.
