Forum > Position Talk > D Line Club > Bonus SA for Pass-Rush DE -- Aura or Relentless Pursuit?

I'm convinced defensive players basically got shafted in terms of bonus SAs (ie: Quick Read, Surge, Catch Fake, and multiple O-line bonus SAs all seem to be more effective than any of the defensive bonus SAs) except for DTs (First Step, Tunnel Vision, and the fact that Aura affects more players in his radius than it would a DE or any other defensive position).

Is Relentless Pursuit really worth it or would Aura of Intimidation be a better one? I've got Aura at the moment because I'd assume it'd activate much more often because it's not situational. How often are DEs even in a position to make a coverage sack anyway?... It seems from the sims that either the QB gets the ball off or is sacked within that first two seconds. Not too much seems to happen after the first two seconds of pass plays.

Am I right or am I way off base here? Anyone have much experience with 6-8 Relentless Pursuit? At this point, I'm thinking bonus SAs for DEs aren't worth even really allocating SPs into.

To me it doesn't really matter. As a DE you have so many other good SA choices that you shouldn't be investing much (if at all) in your bonus SA.

Relentless pursuit is actually pretty effective. Aura is good against crappy O-lines, but good O-lines tend to have solid confidence which makes it less useful.

Also consider Break Through, especially for an LDE.

I picked up blitz with my RDE and he is leading the league in sacks right now. I got 6 pts in blitz.

Blitz works great while you out level your competition. It might not even be blitz, it could be because you out level your competition.

The problem with Blitz is that it's real effect is so small that even if we are successful with it it's hard to tell if it's with Blitz or despite of Blitz. Many people have tried Blitz and sees almost nil effect. I had a few DE over the years with Blitz up to 7-8 and don't really see a major boost, I've given up on it.

Break Thru seems like a no brainer to me at LDE.

This seems to be my experience unless you've got a top notch DC who has a scheme with a blitzing CB. Then, it seems to work well.

This was the conclusion I was coming to, though I do think that potentially the marginal returns to levels of Aura may be greater than putting them into any other attribute or SA when the player is of a high level. As amazing as Aura can be for MLBs, I've got to imagine it's equally as good, if not better, for DEs because they've got contact with opposing players on EVERY single play. I do think it's got major potential if the DE has decent confidence and 8-10 Aura.

I agree with this as long as the build is set up to take advantage of it.

doesn't it just add a modifier to your break block roll when double-teamed? i would think this covers the majority of DE builds...i guess not speed ends, but that's about it.

Speed-ends are having MONSTER seasons right now, too...

I'm pretty sure it gives you a percentage increase to the break block roll against double team blocks. That's great for the high strength and agility LEs out there that dominated last season. But if you build more of a speed end with a lower break block roll then I would ignore it.
