I think the way Bort put people in to leagues this season is the perfect way to handle it, the conferences just need to be shuffled so that the conferences aren't one silver conference and one copper conference, but rather a good mix of copper and silver teams in each conference.
I do however like that the copper teams move up together, this is great for keeping people interested in the game, imo completely randomizing which Silver league you were in would destroy the rivalries that make silver fun, I understand that Gold league is important but I don't think we should sacrifice the silver rivalries just to be sure that the perfect 32 teams are in gold each season.
1st thing that needs to happen is to un-fuck Silver via a random reshuffle.
After that, a Copper to Silver promotion needs to be worked out. Keeping Copper teams together is a good thing, Bort said he wants it to happen too. Three suggestions.
1) The easiest way is to promote Copper 1 teams to Silver 1, C2 to S2 etc, then any remaining teams get placed randomly.
2) Find the best match of teams in a Copper league renewing to CPU teams in a Silver league. Do promotions as well as possible and any remaining teams get placed randomly.
3) Copper leagues are ranked according to the most teams renewing to the least, Silver leagues are ranked according to how many CPU teams are available. Highest Copper promote to highest Silver, 2nd C to 2nd S, etc.
IMHO, the way Bort put people into leagues was horrible. It was a noble idea, but created an absolute clusterfuck the way he did it. It was done with zero consultation, and now the burden is on us to try to fix it without any kind of input from Bort or Catch. Are our ideas workable? Who knows?
