Just curious as to what you guys think of this as a tourney idea. Basically, my idea is to have a tourney, similar to the travelling trophy, but with a little mix.

- One team starts with the trophy (trophy holder), other teams can play against that team in order to win (challengers).
- If the challengers win, they become the trophy holders.
- Trophy holders must accept and play against 1 challenger at least every 4 days (or insert time frame here) or they lose the trophy. Only exception is when they have no challengers.
- Only "official" games are counted. Any game can be deemed an official challenge, as long as both teams and the tournament organiser agrees.
- Trophy holders can make a rule that both teams have to follow during the game, for example, "Inside/Offtackle Rushes only" or "Must punt at 4th down". The rule should give challengers a fair chance (so for example, if the rule was to rush with your centres, and you have centres built for rushing, that would be unfair), if not the trophy holder loses the trophy. If any of the teams break the rule, they technically lose.
- A rule can be changed between challengers, but the rule can't be changed when a challenger match is set.
- In the event that a team loses the trophy, a new team is assigned the trophy holder.
- Trophies should be rewarded to the Trophy holder team at day 41, and the team who beat the most challengers.
- When a team becomes a trophy holder and loses, they cannot challenge the new trophy holders until next season (or maybe a short period of time, but basically Id rather not have just two teams fighting over it)
- Tourney starts at day 1. You can organise games before the tourney starts, and before teams

So, good or bad?

I am going to put myself on the I think it's bad side right now, because the trophy holder could just accept challenges from weak opponents the whole season. There is no rule stating that a team must play the best team that challenges the trophy.

Not bad, but I think that this

- Trophy holders can make a rule that both teams have to follow during the game, for example, "Inside/Offtackle Rushes only" or "Must punt at 4th down". The rule should give challengers a fair chance (so for example, if the rule was to rush with your centres, and you have centres built for rushing, that would be unfair), if not the trophy holder loses the trophy. If any of the teams break the rule, they technically lose.

is a bad idea. It should always be a straight-up match.

If you can get a high quality tournament committee together, this may be able to work.

Good point there. So trophy holders only control the time of the match, instead of if the match goes ahead? That's what I was trying to mean when the trophy holders have to agree to the match.

Yeah I was just thinking of making the games interesting instead of just a straight-up match, and for there to be unique challenges for the challenger. Its early days, but yeah a good committee would mean it can be pulled off - I should of said "organizers" instead of "organizer".

Im leaving the idea as is for now, to try and collect criticism.

Run on first down and pass on second down or vice versa regardless of field position. Whichever you do first has to stay that way for the whole game (if you pass on 1st down on your first possession, then every subsequent first down has to be a pass). Anything goes on 3rd and 4th down. That would be fun.

I think it would be more interesting if the CHALLENGER can deem the rules of the match. Otherwise a team like SBWL could say 'Air It Out', or a team like last year's FG can say 'nothing but rushes' and have the advantage.

I think to keep the trophy you need to be good enough to do a little bit of everything.

Also, if a team doesn't schedule a match, does the trophy go back to the previous team?

Finally, to prevent cupcake matches I think that it would be fun to have interested challengers post their challenge and the stipulation of the match, and then have people vote to see which match they'd like to see the trophy holder HAS to accept. I think this would draw the most interest. After a match, there could be a 24-hour window to make challenges, a 24-hour window for voting, and then the game gets scheduled for 2 days (if possible) after that.

I like this idea PING, it would make the thread or PF very active too.

Win

If the team doesn't schedule, Im not sure how to go about handing it to another team. Maybe the challenger gets it.
