Because I'm not going to bother repeat myself from another forum

After looking at the builds one player here had open I got thinking about how shockingly bad they were. Not as in performing badly but rather on an effective level basis.

I'm going to talk about a key principle of builds may be ignored.

Softcap and the automatic distribution of skill points when leveling up.

When you level up you get a +3 skills spread through your attributes. +2 spread through your major skills and +1 spread through your minor.

Also when you hit soft caps an increase in ability costs more SP.
The first soft cap is 48 and from then on to increase that attribute by one costs 2SP.
The second cap is 60 and the third is 68 thats all I know off the top of my head.

I'm going to talk about my Punter as an example.

My punter is a boomer and so has three "major skills" assigned by the game. Punting confidence and strength. The two skill increase in is spread amoung those three attributes.

Note I said skill not SP increase. That means that once my punter reaches 48 punting, which Jamesy will at level 3 automatic skill increases will be worth 3.67SP per level instead of 3SP. Around level 6 Jamesy will hit 60 punting, that will mean that the skill increase each level is worth 4.33SP and so on. Each time you level its like getting more SP. Over a career the difference is massive.

You have only just hit your first soft cap recently, thats fifteen levels behind on ALG, you wasted SP on SA early which was a waste on the early build which should be devoted to hitting softcaps to take advantage of growth. You missed out completly, that said you had a good year in the D-leagues because you built for now, you just have to accept that your player has had his best season and from now on you will be a moderately below average player.
