Now that the final games of the regular season have been played, I'll quickly update my post from before when the scenarios had been set. As alluded to, there was one big change in the rankings...causing a wee bit of a stir in the playoff seeding. Here goes...
Round I_____________________________________________________________________________
#1 Queensland Exiles (16-0) • vs • #8 Windsor Walruses (8-8)
Queensland is riding one of the longest active winning streaks, now at an astonishing 36 games. Congratulations! As I said beofre, a #8 seed can be dangerous come playoff time, but I just don't expect Windsor will have enough in their arsenal to pull it off. Queensland Exiles - 55, Windsor Walruses - 6
#4 Kansas City Gorillas (13-3) • vs • #5 Winnipeg Warriors (11-5)
And behind door # we have...a match up against Queensland in the second round. Just what the winner of this Week 16 rematch is looking for. These teams should be familiar with one another coming off Kansas City's 24-17 victory in the final game of the season. Winnipeg probably learned enough from that tough seven-point loss that they're quietly confident headed into the playoffs. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the Gorillas are looking to go out on top before their merger with the Nebraska Husker Maniacs next season. Kansas City Gorillas - 34, Winnipeg Warriors - 13
#2 Saskatoon Silverbacks (14-2) • vs • #7 Thunder Bay Wolverines (9-7)
CoachCoughlin took a break from recruiting for the Wolverines to suggest that the seven other playoff participants in the West was equivalent to the list of teams Queensland would beat next. redrayder28 put this game at the highest probability of an upset among the four first-round games, yet still had the confidence to pick his own team. I've seen how much effort Coach is putting into recruiting for next season and he's already conceded a loss to Queensland...I can't help but feel they won't make it deep enough into the playoffs to face them. Saskatoon - 30, Thunder Bay - 19
#3 Moose Jaw Roughriders (14-2) • vs • #6 St. John's Salty Dogs (10-6)
There have been whispers that St. John's threw their last game to get into this match-up. The one positive, if that were true, is that the winner of this game will face Saskatoon in the second round and would only get a crack at Queensland if they advanced to the conference championship. Sure, Demitrius Finster suggested he'd rather face St. John's than Winnipeg...but he also loathes being called by his full name in favor of "Dimmy" and named his characters after the Snorks • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snorks . Knowing this, can you really accept anything from this man at face value? Despite the historical significance of redrayder's predicted score (52-20)* I'll have to suggest it'll be much closer than that.
* The 1996 Sugar Bowl between Florida and Florida State ended in that same score, right Dimmy? I'm not one to bring up old wounds, but I couldn't help but notice you were an owner of the Florida State Warheads...cloaked in Garnet & Gold. You're not a Seminoles fan are you?
