cap building would be better, I would keep getting familiar with the game then retire him in the offseason. Start from scratch with a power back archetype if they are out.

Timetoshine is correct, the best way to build a player for the long run and get the best out of him, is to cap build. Read up on that link to get to know what cap building is about. The keys to a power back are strength, speed, and carrying. Agility comes into play later on.
